Stop these senseless conspiracy theories. Being a researcher in China is a highly stressful job, and the frequent occurrence of premature deaths has long been a cause for concern. As much as there is a lack of evidence, if you see the list of Chinese defence industry scientists dying mysteriously (like the young AI professor from NDU) along with the sudden surge of defence industrial and military officers put under investigation for corruption (all happening between 2022 and now), it is difficult not to suspect there are some serious foul play going on. I don’t have evidence, but it is difficult to just call what we see as coincidence or simple corruption cases.
That is silly haha. There are a lot of scientists in China, probably more than the US and EU combined?. People die every day for all kinds of reasons, definitely not some Black Ops Hidden Spy Scientists that have to be silenced because they know somethingAs much as there is a lack of evidence, if you see the list of Chinese defence industry scientists dying mysteriously (like the young AI professor from NDU) along with the sudden surge of defence industrial and military officers put under investigation for corruption (all happening between 2022 and now), it is difficult not to suspect there are some serious foul play going on. That by itself is not normal either. Just like I’m against the 996 work culture, nobody should work to death during peacetime. There were many doctors who became national heroes during COVId after working themselves to death, and plenty of traffic police officers and fire fighter who pay the ultimate sacrifice due to accidents everyday. But these are exceptional circumstances. Scientists and researchers should never have to work to death in a lab. Something has gone horribly wrong with the management and the incentive structure. Building nukes in China in 2026 should not be like building a nuke in Malan amid the great famine caused by the GLF/Three-years natural disaster.Stop these senseless conspiracy theories. Both the university tenure system in China and the organizational structures of research institutions contribute to this phenomenon. Due to the so-called “tenure-or-out” policy, many young scientists are churning out papers simply to secure a stable faculty position, rather than engaging in truly meaningful research. In essence, this represents a massive waste of human talent. That by itself is not normal either. Just like I’m against the 996 work culture, nobody should work to death during peacetime. You may not have evidence but you would need data to suspect anything. How many top tier scientists does China have? What is their death rate at each age bracket? How does that compare to the national average death rate at each bracket? How does that compare to the death rate at each bracket for people working stressful jobs in China? How does it compare to the death rate of each age bracket for top tier scientists from USA/Russia/Japan/EU, etc...? If there is data to show abnormally and statistically significant elevated death rates in Chinese scientists, then we can start to talk about what foul play or other causes might be happening. Without that, without the big picture, it's too easy to see things through tunnel vision.
