This article citing NYT is basically saying US and Israel thought it would be a quick victory, that Mossad sponsoring a mass uprising plus strike decapitation on leadership will lead to regime change without needing ground component. Boy are they wrong. Ironically, it has given fuel to radical hard-liners and nobody is outside protesting when missiles as flying everywhere. Hormuz straits closed, and more missile strikes are not motivating Iranians towards an unequal treaty or mass uprising.
The article also says Israel is bullish on a ground component, and on other hand says Trump can call off the war at anytime he pleases if Mossad fails it's regime change objectives. Based on this article, my personal informed opinion is, there will be a ground component, and Trump will seize an random island, declare victory, then return random island after declaring he won some major concessions, and ending the war early. Escalate to deescalate.
