Re: New Generation Fighter

With first flight in 2010, we can expect J-XX to enter service by 2013. This means China's 5th generation fighter enters service much earlier than anybody expected.

At this pace, China does not even need the J-10B anymore. Go straight from existing AL-31F based J-10A directly to J-XX. It's only three more years.

I hope when it enters service it will use the high T/W ratio domestic engine, not just the regular FWS-10A.

J-10B will still enter service, cause no matter what price the J-10B it's still gonna be cheaper than the J-XX, and China needs alot of fighters to replace its large fleet of J-7/8.

I think entering service by 2013 may be a bit too optimistic.

Indeed.

Especially since the domestic engine may not even be ready in 3 years.

What the JXX uses on the first flight will not be its service engine, so they will not mass produce the plane until the domestic engine is ready (unless something drastic happens, like the whole domestic engine falling through, or there is a major worsening of relations that looks likely to lead to war etc. But these are extremely unlikely scenarios).

Even after the engine is ready, they will still need to time to integrate it and do all the flight certification. It won't take as long as normal with a re-engine since they would have already planned for it, but it is still going to take time.

So even if first flight is imminent, and everything goes as planned, we may well only see a few squadrons for testing and evaluation by 2013. At most they may set up one regiment for pilot conversion and maybe also aggressor training for the rest of the PLA to figure out ways to counter stealth opponents.

When the plane begins to be fully inducted will depend mostly on when the domestic engine can be finished.

Although if the Jxx is so close to first flight, it could open the door for J10B exports. I can think of a few air forces that might be rubbing their hands together at the prospect.

however according to the sources above, they're saying that the new engine was also in the midst for preparation for the plane itself, therefore it's quite a wonder. also we also know our "ol' man china" is well-known for keeping shit confidential in terms of its developments until it's ready for operation, therefore especially if it's something like JXX, we might be in for a full range of surprises. however this is my speculation, and im a bit drunk from last night, so u can choose to take my opinion with a grain of salt, or share what you think if my words make remotely half a bit of sense

I think information in the last couple of years have been more consistent and less prone to confidential variability That and the current information we have correlates well with what we already know about China's production capabilities, so I'm pretty sure the engine for the J-XX won't be ready for a while.

Re: New Generation Fighter

You could try fitting the new engine onto the JXX, but that depends on how much you like the test pilots. Prototypes blowing up in midair tends to lower service morale.

2013 sounds like a reasonable date for the first fully equipped prototype to start flying if it does fly by the end of this year.

Any one thinks that the prototype will fly on the anniversary of the official disclosure of the J-10?

I doubt they will start to enter service in anyway whatsoever by 2013. Maybe 2015-2017. Just look at how long it took for the USAF's ATF program to go from prototype to IOC. better side of two decades.

The first batch will probably be equipped with the improved WS-10 engine (around 2015-2017) and the WS-15 equipped one will be about 2017-2019 -- I just hope that the change in engine doesn't necessitate a massive redesign of the aircraft like teh change to Al-31F did for the J-10.

And it'll be stupid not to produce the J-10B. the PLAAF won't be getting massive numbers of this new gen fighter (Three hundred ish imho), and the J-10B will still be a very modern and capable aircraft that could keep replacing J-7's.

Lol I was kinda hoping it'll fly around Zhuhai airshow. And give a live feed on projectors and everything :p

I just hope we get pictures of this thing within a year.
