The rare earth card (i.e. 'nuclear option') is personally the most epic, as it signaled China most robust/powerful knock-out response in the past 7 years of the trade war. To date, China has been doing everything proportionate to salami provocations and tech bans, but China came out swinging hard against the bully. The rare earths card caused the removal of all liberation day tariffs, 50% export control rules, reversed Nexperia seizure, forced US capitulation on H200 chips (not that China needs it, just out of principle), and renewed respect for China as a G2 peer power. It forced the US to truly respect the Busan/Madrid trade truce in ways that we never seen before.

Between DeepSeek AI, EUV breakthrough, Dual 6th gens, and EMALs launching 5th gens, it's just insane the amount of breakthroughs China has made, but somehow I personally think the rare-earths card is the most epic and powerful of them all.

The most entertaining (by far) is the J-10C vs. Rafale turkey shoot, due to Indian meltdown online.

This is a great list worthy of decades.

I think greatest PRC win should also include (albeit they are much less prominently promoted) dominance in robotics and passenger vehicles.

PRC car exports by volume beat Germany and Japan. Robotics was only at parity with the US not even a couple of years ago. Robotics have now sailed ahead of the US. Telecommunications, renewable energy technologies, nuclear power production, shipbuilding, are all reinforced further with PRC in a greater lead than previously.

Still behind on LLM generative AI. China held the lead at the early phase of video generation with Kling beating Sora but now both of these are being beaten by Google (imo), with Kling also falling behind Sora. Deepseek while an awesome show, isn't quite as much a goal as robotics and car industry becoming world leading and/or world beating.

This is a good thing though. AI consumes so much talent, compute and energy just to be used 90% of the time for slop or useless garbage. China should put in token efforts to remain half a step behind but without the resource commitment. China is more all in on narrow AI applications compared to the US. US wants to try AGI but is in a perpetual state of self delusion about AGI, telling everyone they got it every few weeks when AGI is impossible through LLMs.

Deepseek.

A lot of other things like military are stuff which the average person doesn't even know about. And some of that isn't even released yet so we will always have naysayers.

Everyone knows what deepseek is. In fact a lot of them are using it right now. Even models that are based on it. If you don't believe in China products, you can just use deepseek right this moment for free and realize, wow this is the real deal huh? Its right in front of you and cannot be denied.

Its important not because of AI but the implications. A lot of people kept thinking America must be number one by default. They got the latest cutting edge tech that cost a grollion dollars! Deepseek said WRONG!

A lot of perception of China really changed with this. The stock market got a massive boost because suddenly people realize, Chinese companies are the real deal now. They can make cutting edge stuff for a fraction of the cost. The prestige of China has gone to a new level which in turn affects everything else.

Even if Deepseek stopped releasing new models right this moment, they set the stage for all the others in China to move forward.

I voted for the 6th gen reveals. It was the first time that I felt that China has unquestionably surpassed one of the lynchpins of western hegemony. It also gave some peace of mind that China could continue to develop while keeping western military incursions at bay.

But my gosh, only when you see this list laid out like this, that one can get a feel for the absolute blockbuster year that China had.
