The correct response is indeed to do nothing and win. Sodium perchlorate is basic chemical ingredient with many more customers and use cases than Iran's missile program. Trading a couple thousand tons of it in exchange for tying down irreplaceable USN assets is a great deal. If Iran really wants the shipments to go through, they can pay for overland shipping via the Xi'an-Arpin rail link.

The same is true for Venezuelan oil tankers. Oil is a fungible commodity. The more time and resources USN wastes outside WESTPAC, the better.

Of course! Do nothing when someone boards your ships and confiscates your property. Release no statements. Pretend it didn't happen. Never stand up for yourself. It's all in the holy book.

As far as I know, they are Iranian ships carrying Iranian property which happened to be purchased from China. From your own article:

Two Iranian ships have been sailing from China with tons of sodium perchlorate, a main ingredient for producing solid propellant for ballistic missiles, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year.

Why exactly is it China's problem if Iran cannot protect its own ships or property? Iranian strategic utility is not nothing, but it's not very high on the list either.

Did you just make that sentence up? Coz the article I shared doesn't say anything about the origins of the ship or that there were two ships or what the materials confiscated were.
