The argument against that is that the airforce wanted something fast. I suppose it could use propfans like An-70 but that'll probably mean we won't be seeing it within the next 1-2 years.
last year, Shaanxi announced to build research and developed base for Medium transport aircraft.

i don't know on which podcast but Guancha Trios also mentioned, Y-30 project accelerated. someone has to verify this information

we don't even know. which AVIC subsidiary is responsible of twin Engine medium transport aircraft.

Dont know how wide they want it to be. Y-9 cargo width of 3.2m or Y-20/A-400 width of 4m to use the same cargo pallets ?

You need to have a bigger gain than just been an Y-9 with better engines.

Note how Y-20 has a small notch above the radome, probably the camera for EVS. Although strangely enough no visible HUD to go with it.

The HUD is just folded up. Most HUDs for these type of large aircraft have foldable ceiling mounted HUDs, which is how it is for Y-20 given we've had multiple pictures of its interior cockpit before.

The EVS is also something which was identified many years ago. Not a big deal that it's noticed again, but just pointing out it's a well established known feature.

We may get another aircraft between the 200+ tonne Y-20 and the 75-90 tonne Y-30. I wouldn't be surprised if they would introduce another transport tier but with a MTOW of 120 to 140 tonnes. Several countries opted for that MTOW range with the C-2 and the A400M. I would say a propfan would be the ideal engine for such an aircraft. It is more appropriate for higher speeds than a turboprop but is also more fuel efficient and is more capable of short take-offs compared to a turbofan.
