Live example of soft power gain from flexing hard power:

EV's isn't where China will get soft power everywhere. Tesla is a very, very competitive company in the EV market, and even more so in North America with their longer distance cars, just like how Chinese EV's don't do well in Russia due to the size of Russia (only 0.5% of the cars are EV in Russia), petrol vehicles will always do better at longer distances than EV's and even more so in Canada, Russia, and America where we both have loads of oil to spare. The reason EV's in Europe and Asia punch is the combination of higher fuel prices and shorter driving distances. China should export petrol cars to North America like they do in Russia to get soft power here.

"Why are More Young People Pro-China" from TLDR News noting the worldwide trend of more positive views on China, particularly amongst younger people.

Part of the reasons stated include:

-rise in anti-Trump (and anti establishment American) sentiment

-disappointment in the democratic process and it's outcomes

-less anti-communist sentiment in younger people

-climate change and environmental concerns which China is addressing (EVs, cleaner energy etc)

-Chinese cultural exports (TikTok, Labubus, Temu, Shein)

That’s a rather leftist view IMO. The young right are also more pro-China, especially young men, for reasons not listed there. They really like the lack of excessive DEI, immigration, and political correctness. This is most evident in the gaming community which you can read all about in the Chinese gaming thread. Most young men play video games, so it’s a very under appreciated arena.

I think that it's a lot simpler than the arguments above. Everywhere in the West, the social contract is being broken, and the people who experience this the most directly are the young. They're going to be much more open to looking at how other countries in other social systems do, and China is obviously doing something right.

When you’re successful, people find reasons to like you.

Sure that's part of it as happy people tend to take pride in their own country, but those reasons listed are why people are specifically looking to China.
