Then China needs to shut their propaganda department down and start making banger movies and games on the international stage. Propaganda so good and subtle, noone realise they are being fed propaganda. Integrate Chinese culture and values into people's subconscious mind and everyday life like how Hollywood did it. IMO, propaganda from blatant state sources will never work not to mention how sloppy they are.
Exactly. China needs to create an image of itself that appears „cool“to the world, especially the younger generation.

China does have an international propaganda wing but it just produces childish tricks that don‘t work. Just watch Wolf Warrior 2, it‘s just straight up dumb and not to mention offensive to native Africans. You have one scene where a bunch of Africans dance around a fire while having being evacuated to a factory.

i watched some of the state sponsored propaganda accounts from Insta and Facebook. They are just based on a bunch of people, mostly women, who learnt local languages interact with locals mostly talking about how great China is. Not subtle at all.

Then you have cultural differences. In East Asia, it‘s apparently attractive for grown ass women to look and act like babies but it just simply doesn‘t fly anywhere else bar for some anime nerds.

Why do you want China to have good propaganda?

Foreign Propaganda has never been a forte of the CCP. It's one area they are worse than even amateurs like India. Lol it's so bad that it's not even worth watching to be honest, especially the state sponsored ones like CGTN, CCTV .Lol Anyway, I dont think they should even waste money on that, since they are not good at it. They should just save money and focus on other areas. Leave that to private players who dont actively try to do this, but inadvertently do in a better way while going about their business. Tech companies have done a good job so far.
Russia by contrast is an expert in this domain. They actually even turn many European countries citizens and politicians in their favor despite waging a full scale war against Europe. You even find their propaganda resonate well in Africa where the population has turned very pro Russian/Putin with wag er spreading their influence there as well..etc

No, this is recency bias. CPC once challenged the USSR in terms of global projection of revolutionary power and prestige, that was due to both the party being genuinely quite badass as well as good propaganda to present the image globally. Whatever your opinion of it, GPCR era Maoism had immense aura.

Even after reform and opening there were big spikes of massive power projection, such as the excellently executed Beijing Olympic opening ceremony. I'd actually also contend that the somewhat recent China-Central Asia summit which occured in a renovated Chang'an style area of Xi'an was absolutely dripping with aura.

Spring festival galas show that there are at least some competent people in the state communication/propaganda depts. Even if the quality of spring festival gala has become very soulless and commercialized crap mostly, the dance companies are still peak.

If China, the United States, and Russia were to conduct nuclear tests, it would undermine the consensus on nuclear non-proliferation to some extent. China does not wish to see more countries acquiring nuclear weapons.
The big challenge for China would be how to prevent Japan from getting nukes. South Korea having nukes would not be a big deal for China since NK would always keep Seoul in check. For China, the biggest nonproliferation problem would always remain Japan and Taiwan to a lesser extend.

I just saw a journalist for the Washington Post say when he was in Japan and he happened to get into a conference where the then US ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emmanuel, was speaking. He said that Rahm Emmanuel was pushing Japan to have nukes. Interesting because since then Japan has not even passively mentioned at all about going nuclear despite how the US is essentially endorsing them to go nuclear, it's probably in their minds of the consequences if they do. Countries like nuclear China and North Korea don't see Japan as the good guys. So if they have nukes, the more likely China and North Korea won't hesitate nor regret to use nukes first on them if they see something they don't like happening with Japan. Would they want the increased probability of that happening? Japan is close by so a strike on Japan could happen with little to no warning. Then despite how they have good relations with South Korea now, you think South Korea won't want to arm with nukes because Japan has them? They still have a problem with Japan denying what they did to them in WWII. Then let's not forget Russia. Japan wants back land they took as a result of WWII. Look at that can of worms Japan opens if they go nuclear. And the US just wants to get the focus off themselves and right on Japan only which what Rahm Emmanuel was doing...

What if Japan develop nukes, how will China respond? I don't think China will attack Japan for that reason. Most likely China will develop even more nukes.

The Taiwan scenario is different. Taiwan will get attacked for developing nukes
