Remember that the J-16 is a second-line fighter-bomber and I expect it will mainly be used as a bomb/missile truck. So it's not worth retrofitting a more advanced radar.

J-16 is very much being used as an air superiority fighter

But look at the J-20 which is the premier air superiority fighter.
It started with a GaN radar some 10 years ago, which is now being replaced with a SiC radar with 3x the power.

At the moment yes, but it is very much suboptimal as a non-stealthy air superiority fighter.
The preference will always be to use a stealthy 5th gen.

There will be 1000+ 5th gen fighters plus UADFs.
There's simply no need to use the J-16 for air superiority, so there's no pressing need for the J-16 to receive the best radar.

Chinese J16 Radar has 2000 TR modules but it's a GaAs AESA Radar so the range is only 200-250km

Why not wait until India installs this so-called advanced radar on its aircraft before boasting about its power? They just can't shake this bad habit of exaggeration; they start bragging before they've even accomplished anything. We are all well aware of the gap between India and China in the field of radar; they shouldn't even try to compare themselves to China in this area!

This isn't credible at all, India can't sell it's Su-30MKI's aircraft since Russia has to approve it first. No way Russia lets India export a flanker variant over its own.

Armenia already bought indian weapons before. For them it's a way to pinch Russia, and maybe also pretend for Europe they aren't buying Russian weapons anymore.
Downsides (there's a reason no one buys Indian armament) don't matter for Armenia, if they ever thought about combat capabilities, they wouldn't be buying 40t jets.

Moreover Armenia doesn't have the cash and infrastructure to run such fleet.

They have Su-30SMs.

Even by their own estimates it won't happen until 2028, by then even Russians would have probably put AESAs on their own flankers, this is not factoring in all the teething issues this thing will inevitably have.
