Saw these lasers aboard the 986 四明山 (Siming Shan) on a Netizens' post. They think it could be the LY-1 laser that appeared on display during the September 3 Parade. So is this actually old news?

Well, at the time there was no clear picture of the laser weapon, but yes, now we do believe that it was the LY-1 on the Siming Shan.

It isn’t so much testing right now ow. They are replacing the kinetic CIWS with this and will roll it out onto other platforms.
Is it replacing kinetic CIWS or just supplementing?

After all, lasers do have to take into account more environmental factors (rain, fog, dust, etc) than kinetic based CIWS. While you probably can brute force the kill through sheer power, I'm not sure the lowered reliability factor is acceptable for a CIWS.

Replacing HHQ-10 and supplementing gun based CIWS for 071.
