Yankee: YJ-15 is a scaled-down version of the YJ-12, designed to be mounted on the J-15's heavy pylon, and it is already on combat duty. Until the next-gen anti-ship missile for the J-35's internal weapons bay is ready, the naval air force will use it for the time being.

YJ-15 is still not the "target missile", but a transitional product.

By that, the YJ-15 should also be UVLS-capable. However, there likely won't be a need to, given the roles and responsibilities of FFGs in the PLAN.

That's a great advancement. Having supersonic anti-ship missile carried by j-15 is a big improvement over current subsonic ones. It was a big capability gap and now has been resolved!!

No, the issue with YJ-12 is that it could not be efficiently carried by the J-15. As I recall J-15 could mount a single YJ-12 under the center pylon while J-15 could carry 3 YJ-15s since it is smaller and lighter.
If they achieve payload, range and speed in a smaller missile it would be interesting for sure. It would deliver nice salvo with a couple of J-15. It need to achieve range and speed of YJ-12 at the minimum.
