Nio is finished. Their bet on Battery swapping didn't pay off since fast charging is now fast enough to no longer need the complicated battery swapping system. It used to be the big darling of Chinese EV companies.

You should know that both the State Grid and CATL are in the battery swapping business. The government issued industrial policies that encourage investment in battery swapping, too.

You should also know both technologies have pros and cons. At this point, they are more complementary with than competing against each others.

Super chargers can use less space but they add a a lot of stress on the power grids. Battery swapping stations on the other hand can recharge the batteries with lower current over longer and cheaper hours. The batteries on standby can work as energy storage (duh!) to meet surging power demands from sources including your favourite super chargers.

Chinese EVs have roughly 10% market share in Norway after five years of growth.

Felipe Munoz, global analyst at research firm JATO Dynamics, said his own definition of a Chinese brand includes all businesses that make cars that are fully designed, conceived and produced in China — such as MG, which is part of China’s SAIC Motor. The likes of Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, however, would be excluded, even if they are fully or partly owned by a Chinese original equipment manufacturer. Based on this definition, Munoz said Norway is the European country where Chinese car brands have accumulated their largest market share at 10.04% between January and June 2025.

Nio, if I understand correctly, is without Onvo here. Overall it's still growing, at a higher retail price point than Xpeng and even Li.
Mildly speaking, too early for tombstone.

Nio here is Nio company, including Onvo, Firefly, and Nio brand. Nio brand alone is 75k units sold, a decrease from 2024 H1 87k units. The two new brands Onvo is 32k and Firefly is 8k.
So if Onvo and Firefly are not accounted for, Nio brand also suffered sales decrease.

Here is a graph for a more detailed breakdown.
