Seems like the Indians underestimated the range of the PL-15 missile and instead were sitting comfortable within its engagement envelope.

It’s because Russian and Western armies dealers love to puff up the stats to make their gear look good. Indians probably thought that low quality Chinese junk exaggerated the stats to an even greater degree.

Wont it be standard procedure be to Err on the side of caution for any airforce tho.. better stay 'out of range'
It would be, but China doesn't publish their missile ranges so all anyone can do is guess. I suspect that someone in the IAF took that placard for the PL-15E's stated range of 145km at face value. I don't know why anyone would do that, but it would go down as a colossal blunder!

Hi,
At time of PAF getting J10c with PL15E in 2022, everyone including SDF members were
at the same page of 145Km range so I think until unless someone use the missile at It’s
utmost capacity one can not judge E,
thank you

It's easy for amateurs to assume that the range of the PL-15E is 145km because there's no risk in doing so. What if we're wrong? We would just take the updated figures and nothing will happen. It's totally different for an actual military planner. These people can't make dumb assumptions because people will die and countries can outright lose wars as a consequence.

To be fair to the IAF, the main reason their fighters got slaughtered is because the PAF managed to show off BVR capabilities that nobody knew that they possessed. It's very much a case of one party playing checkers while his opponent is playing chess. The difference is that it's effectively the first case ever of anyone playing chess before.

Hasn't made Indians admit anything before. They could just follow protocol and say she died or got maimed in a car accident the day after Sindoor was over during India's infamous nation-wide 2 week long post-war curse...

They’ve even owned up to the fact that they’ve been reporting BS for views and clicks. Does any of the feel good stories about Sindhoor have even a nugget of truth to them?
