European Economics Thread

So it seems rare earth export controls are more global than country specific. Which resulted in Europe importing 30 percent less rare earths. And eu isn't happy, naturally. Question is, how is such a move by China beneficial to itself? Wouldnt it make more sense if rare eaRth exports are more country specific and the EU is explicitly kept happy? Why fight on two fronts at the same time when there is no need for such risk?

Because China wants to stop this:

Whatever weapons the West produce now, China may be at the receiving end of them.

The EU will transship rare earth magnets to the USA so it can build F-35s. If you don't have controls on the EU, you might as well drop the ban altogether as they will end up with Lockheed Martin anyways.

It's like export banning TSMC from selling Kirin chips to Huawei in China but allowing TSMC to sell an unlimited supply of Kirin chips to anybody in Central Asia. It's pointless.

As for the EU being unhappy, fixing America's overcapacity of F-35 and nuclear submarine production is more important than EU happiness.

Russia is outproducing all of NATO by itself. The restrictions are more of a helping hand for Russia and Iran than for China's own benefit.

Honestly the bigger threat is not Euro weapons, but Europeans losing spending power for Chinese goods and services. Contrary to popular belief, China actually wants a wealthy Europe and America for their consumer markets. I'm hearing murmurs on the internet that the EU and UK completely broke and mulling ideas of seizing the savings of its citizens for even more Ukraine Aid (no idea if its true or not).

Russia doesn’t need help. The war in Ukraine isn’t that high tech, unlike the upcoming one in the West Pac. Russia is outproducing NATO on low tech munitions like artillery shells.

NATO as a whole still has a fairly large stockpile and their high tech weapons aren’t stopping Russia’s progress in Ukraine. Chinese government’s action matched what I said. She is stopping export of rare earth for military usage.

That is correct.

Which is where 41 Trillion dollars PPP (China) comes in. Should start spending 5% which is equal to about 2 Trillion PPP. China hasn't had better position than it has now to outspend and destroy the enemies that seem to be hell bent on destroying China. China needs to take the NATO spending seriously and with severely limited budgets of the U.S. and the EU, this is the time for China to double down and decimate / neutralize and totally destroy any NATO defence spending into oblivion. This is the best way to teach NATO that there is absolutely no point for NATO to dream about spending anything near 5% without facing massive and brutal counter reaction from the 41 Trillion PPP economy that produces its own weapons and has control of Rare Earth Minerals.

If you say this before Trump/Biden switching in 2021, you would be right that China should keep EU outside the fight which China did. And I had the same opinion back then. But since then EU has proven that it will jump on US side and stab China whenever there is a slight chance that US will beat them a little bit lesser. The world has changed a lot in the past 5 years, therefor China has changed too.
