Ordinary PLA infantrymen

Wait what? Why would the salary be low compared to living standard when the military covers housing, food, and healthcare, the main costs for living in a big city?

That is still so little. I believe it is basically almost the same as what an average factory operator or worker is making per month plus you get to train your ass out... wouldn't it be better to be just an average factory worker (semi-skill or even unskilled, since you get around the same amount of money per month)

And if the infantry man is actually located in big cities like Shanghai or Beijing, their salary will certainly not be enough as living standard is increduleous.

My friend, that is a base pay, after tax. Many local governments(in cities or rich areas) will give more than 200000 yuan sign up bonuses for boys serve in the military (army, af 3 years; navy 4 years).

You will find many places that their actual pay are few times more than base pays. A friend of mine is a cop in shanghai. His base pay is around 3000 yuan a month. After tax, plus many we don't know, his net income on paycheck is 5 times more than his base pay, over 15000 yuan a month. What we don't see? You will find a PLA Private with nice looking girlfriends buying 24 yuan a cup coffee in Starbucks these days.

If you are a salary maker in the United States or Canada or any places in the world, please don't go to China telling that you are rich. People will laugh you. On paper, I make a lot more maney than my old friends in China. But they spent money like nothing. Many people in Shanghai, they are buying apartments cost way more than the houses in the United States. If they just showed their paychecks, no banks in the States will loan them money. They pay 2-3 million yuans apartments in cash. Where is the money come from? It just doesn't add up in China!

So... could I say, people that had joined the PLA and police force's salary is something like this:

Base Salary (miserably little) + legal benefits (bonues + health care + retirement fees + etc) + not that legal and/or outright illegal benefits

(Oh... btw, even if I am really rich... I mean really rich... I would never go to china or anywhere in this world, telling people I am rich... that is not a clever thing to do, irregardless of whether they will laugh at me or not...:D Anyway... my bank account really has nothing to show off about.:D:D)

Oh, would more like this:

base pay, position pay; rank pay; services seniority; location cost adjustments; special duty adjustment; transportation adjustment; communication adjustment; Winter heating adjustment; food cost adjustment; haircut adjustment; only child adjustment; holiday bonus; and more (my friend's paycheck has more than 20 items). Health care and retirement are must, not showing on paycheck; some cash and merchandise bonuses were not shown.

Yeah, I was almost got hired by a company in China, anyway the pay structure over there is way weird.

Base Pay: 7500 yuan / month

Living Cost reimbursement: 3600 / month
(given to you after you show the all important receipts (发票)

Health Care reimbursement: 1000ish / month
(intend for you to buy health insurance, but you could secretly choose not to)

Retirement pay: 2000ish / month
(intend for you to invest in a retirement fund, but you think sushi is a good investment, go ahead)

now the weird bit....
the pay is 13 month period per year. once you, so you get two check every 12th month, including all the extra stuff. (though you might have to come up with a large amount of 发票 that month, real or fake)
If you are good (don't really know the definition of that, since I didn't really work there), you get a bonus equivalent to a year of base salary.

As you can see Base Pay is just a tiny portion of pay in China... Only the base bay and bonus are taxed, even then I was told it's less than 300 yuan per month.

Pardon me... but getting a 13 month salary is not weird... at least in Singapore. We calculate our salary per month. And somehow, most of our company use a 4 week calculation per month, because we are actually seeing a 28days per month calculation. However it is not true in real life. Because 7 days a week, 4 week a month and 12months a year... but if you add up, there are only 48 weeks... but we are actually working 52weeks a year. So there, the company owes you 1 months pay... which is the 13th months.

However in many companies nowaday, they don't calculate salary monthly... they give you annual salary, which goes something like S$40000 per year. And so each month, irregardless of the number of days in that month, you get S$40000/12.

Yeah, many companies in the States have bi-weekly pay periods. Since we have 52 weeks in a year, that's 26 paychecks. If we assume we get paid twice a month (one check/two weeks), that's 13 months...

That's actually not what the 13th month pay is for. It is essentially 12-month period bonus designed to encourage people not to jump over to other companies. (basically you get one extra pay check for every 12 pay periods, and it is separate from the performance based bonus at end of FY. I never encountered such a things while working in the states before, sorry I didn't make myself clear.) But it does illustrate how bad attrition is for experience staff, and the measures management come up to counter it.

I think this too far from Ordinary PLA infantrymen topic.... So

I have read (forget where) that a basic infantryman's service life is about three years in China... and that was mightily short. How experience can a soldier get in three years of service only. When they are just about ready... they are to leave the army.

In Singapore, even our conscripts would have to serve up to two years from two and a half year during my time.

that's y you have NCO's... the real backbone of any army.

btw its down to two years now for the volunteers. German army is 9months though, wonder if there is anyone with shorter service than that.
