A paper published last month in China’s top aviation journal, the peer-reviewed Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica, showed that the J-36 design team was in the early stages of making a naval variant suitable for use with the PLA Navy’s growing fleet of aircraft carriers ;-)Is J-36 capable of (in theory) carrier take off and landing?
I highly doubt that it is carrier capable unless the carrier itself is absolutely ginormous. Imagine how big the elevator has to be to move that bird…
Wouldn't the elevator just need to lower the throughput to 1 aircraft at a time instead of 2? It should be smaller overall than the KJ-600.I highly doubt that it is carrier capable unless the carrier itself is absolutely ginormous. Imagine how big the elevator has to be to move that bird…
North American A-5 Vigilante was a huge aircraft too...23m+ aircraft. They were going underdeck without issue.I highly doubt that it is carrier capable unless the carrier itself is absolutely ginormous. Imagine how big the elevator has to be to move that bird…
Not necessarily, working with E-2’s dimensions (KJ600 should be in the same ballpark), when folded it’s around 17.5m long and 9m wide, substantially smaller than the J36Wouldn't the elevator just need to lower the throughput to 1 aircraft at a time instead of 2? It depend if a j36 would have folding wings... Vigilante were long still they got them down like the A-3.Not necessarily, working with E-2’s dimensions (KJ600 should be in the same ballpark), when folded it’s around 17.5m long and 9m wide, substantially smaller than the J36
edit: even the A5 had a much smaller wingspan (~16m unfolded) than the J36, I for one really can’t see this thing operate on a deck without big compromises
Actually, it may be related to 6th gen tailless planes in general, and not necessarily the J-36.Which part of the paper says that being the case?
