Jesus Christ the bond market is a disaster. 30 year treasury bond has risen to 4.90% up 51 bps in one week! The 10 year treasury bond yields are 4.45 bps up 46 bps in one week! The bond market is forcing Trump to de-escalate. This is horrific. If Trump doesn’t stop we could a meltdown that will the Great Depression be a walk in the park. I bet right now Bessemt is getting angry phone call by bankers and hedge fund managers screaming at him to get the orange retard to stop with these idiotic tariffs.
I still think that the US and China will reach an agreement sooner or later, even if it is not a comprehensive agreement. This trade clash of such intensity is not beneficial to either party; no trade can survive a rate of 145%. But it seems that Beijing is better prepared. Since 2018, they have managed to gather a lot of ammunition to use. Even though China no longer has experts on the US as it did in the first trade war (Liu He), Li Qiang and Wang Wentao seem to be working well. But if the Chinese had started this work of expanding consumption back in 2015/2016, as I have already reiterated here, perhaps today they would have even more means to fight head-on.

I mean, if you look at China's actions over the last 3 years, especially with export controls, China probably wants an economic war, or at least has no desire to prevent one. Now that US bond market has spoken and China has a shot at actually cripple the entire US dollar system, and China already been prepared for a conflict, it's not in China's interest to stop.

IMO China should make sure Trump doesn't fold and keep increasing tariff to 200% or 400%, I know from my work that if you can't replace Chinese suppliers at 100% tariff, you can't at 200% or 400% either, but for American companies 100% tariff is a hit to bottom line, a big hit but just a hit, whereas 400% is death.
China I believe did not want this war but she was wise enough to fully prepare for it and Xi and company did not waste the last 7 years(bravo Mr.President Xi!!) but used every measure to harden/strengthen/multiply all economic avenues for this day-I knew that this day would come-surely Beijing did and more.

Looks like EU leadership (Von der Leyen + Costa) are heading to Beijing this summer for the 50th anniversary summit. Previously there was some back and forth regarding arrangements over who hosts/who attends. EU wanted Xi to attend instead of Li, so they agreed to break protocol which says Europe should host this year.

Of course, the real credit goes to Trump for providing the catalyst for this high-level exchange.

A good read from Robert Wu regarding Americas/Western quixotic and hubristic assumptions - fed and led by HANJIAN analysts - that kept feeding them with the China Collapse Theory.

China wouldn't have started a fight if US behaved itself, but you don't spend a decade preparing for a conflict that will secure your global dominance without just a little bit of excitement over it happening.

The thing about these memes, they are meant to be jokes, but there is a certain truth in that, what do people actually believe will happen?

You tariff everything and expect to have manufacturing jobs come back for what? For shoes? For clothes? Forget the cost concern, why is it imagined that everyone is champing at the bit for these great factory jobs? It's just false romanticism of halcyon days gone by. These aren't even considered good jobs in China. Just silly thinking...
Isn't it quite obvious now? When they demand that other countries make direct payments to the Ministry of Finance, we can all see that MAGA only wants the world to pay off their deficits.
I watched one interview videos online, and a student living in the US shared he saw the naive mentality of MAGAs: they really thought that increasing tariffs would increase government revenue, and then the government could provide them with welfare benefits.

I personally always prepare for the worst but hope for the best-it can't help but strengthen you.China facing down Trump has increase her strength ,reputation and confidence a natural byproduct of this conflict. If China hadn't prepared and folded -where /how would we be today???
