125%? You realize that incremental bargaining leverage diminishes as you go higher? For China, the difference between 1000% and 125% is marginally insignificant compared to 30% vs. 10%.

Watch China match the 125%, and he goes 200 billion kajillion + 1%. I win!
Without MFN status, a country would face 40%~60% tariffs. Any experienced trade pros can tell you that, beyond 60%, it becomes practically meaningless because most normal trades would be dead anyway. Therefore, if the current rates stay around both ways, the trade between the 2 countries is going to be practically dead, period.

Easy on them. Small men do not understand big numbers.
...nor spelling, nor grammar and English wasn't my first language. It's painful to watch this generation mangle their sentences' grammar, spelling and paragraphs etc.No wonder they need Grammarly software and AI to write a simple essay. That stupidity/uneducation is why a grifter/conman like Trump can manipulate them to be POTUS to the sorrow of the world and them ultimately.

No. China doesnt want to outright kill them. If it really wanted to, it has almost a dozen nuclear-level cards to play than the simple tariff card.

Ideally, US dies a slow death or just gets rolled into a retirement home to live for its last days.

This play was good enough for now to demonstrate to the world the inevitability of China's rise and US' decline while also dealing a huge inflation/economic, diplomatic, reputational, geopolitical/geoeconomic blow to US which will cripple them in all these areas

Taking down the US will be a long process, no need to hurry

Except China isn't a normal country, and there's no avoiding China in the supply chain. Right now American companies are just sucking it up, paying the tariffs if they have cashflow and pass it onto buyers, if trade actually stop they're going out of business with no hope of survival.

Then there's the possibility Chinese suppliers, or Beijing will just cut them off without negotiation. As far as China's concerned right now, the highest Trump increase tariffs the better.

Remember America invoked war time production act in 2020 to make masks and still failed....

It is all MAGA slop you see on X. Everything is 4d chess. Some bot repeats the same garbage over and over. Reminds me of the stupid "Q" cult. The scary part is you have influential maga people involved with it. Its like a weird feedback between x-slop->techbros/polticians->executive branch->x-slop

Kinda funny is that the rest of reddit has suddenly become pro-/neutral-China. I saw some x post that said r/china has become pro-china lol

Funny how that happens when USAID gets cut.

I am amazed at how quickly some think that the USA has out played China based on shit like this. Really, none of this changes the fact that China produced everything the USA needs and the fact that US manufacturing needs decades to be brought back to have any kind of an effect. As of now, the US economy based on the debt levels and current levels of unemployment due to all the firings is still in the dumpster, he is only making these moves now because he is losing, not because he is winning.
Also why are YouTubers like this moron and Asmondgold are riding up and down on Trumps shaft like a bunch of unashamed hookers while pretending to understand geopolitics because as far as I know, none of these people possess any skill in economics or any real understanding of the big picture in general (then again, they are from the USA so I guess patriotic shaft sucking is expected)
It's not about outplaying China - it's about pressuring the Vassals to jump on the train.
They won't outright accept doing the US bidding - then they would acknowledge being vassals - instead it has to go through a theater of "negotiations" where ultimately the US gets exactly what it wants from them.

LMAO after all these cuts to government spending Trump comes in and blows up the budget anouncing an increase to military spending to 1$ trillion.

he isn't cutting spending, he is just refunneling it. instead of it going to the average American it's gonna go to the billionaire class in the military industry complex.

Trump, Hegseth promise record $1 trillion Pentagon budget

President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth pledged a first ever $1 trillion defense budget proposal on Monday, a record sum for the military.

Trump, during a press event with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said the upcoming budget would be “in the vicinity” of $1 trillion.

“COMING SOON: the first TRILLION dollar @DeptofDefense budget,” Hegseth posted from his personal account. “(PS: we intend to spend every taxpayer dollar wiselyon lethality and readiness).”

imagine that. you are a Trump supporter who is sick of rising costs so you elect this fake populist leader hoping he would finaly spend money to raise your living standards and fix the country. but then Trump's guy comes in and he tells you "we will spend every tapayer dollar... on lethality". spending 1$ trillion is in itself an unwise thing to do because you should spend that money to build your nation rather than spending it on weapons.

people in red states support Trump because they blame China/east Asia for their diminishing living standards yet their solution is quite illogical. they think if they can get those low wage, labor intensive factory jobs back from east Asia then this will somehow raise their living standrads! rather than looking to blame foreigners for their situation, Trump supporters should blame their successive governments including Trump who instead of following a policy of America first has followed a policy of military industrial complex first, Israel first, private health insurance companies first etc..

Not that simple. There are lots of countries acting as trade agents in both ways. For a few critical items, US did "exemption" all the time. And China cannot practically monitor or stop all trans-shipment via third-party.

Looks like Trump caved, 125% is basically to save face. But is clear that while Trump is president the trade deficit with US is like playing hot potato with a live grenade. If the trade deficit is reduced in China, something they probably desperately want, that means will only increase with others countries, leaving their economies even more expose to Trump tariffs. And remember this is 90 days IF Trump doesn't change his mind sooner.

I'm loving how stupid his mouth is. By mentioning China in rage right at the top, he just told the whole world including all the little countries that are panicked because they were expecting to get ragdolled by the US, that China just won their fight for them. China is their hero to all those who are not completely brainwashed by Western media, and even to those who are, they've got to be feeling that rare sensation the creeps up from your spine right to the top of your head when you realize something that shakes your whole life.
These vassals don't care. They are thinking something like oh it's a good thing I kissed Trump ass so only China get taxed. That's how I see it in Vietnam, Thailand, etc. It's too wishful thinking to expect gratitute from these losers.
