After collapse of USSR and other communist countries in Europe, they all adopted shock therapy hoping to change to market economy in a few years instead of decades and thinking the shock was short term. We usually believe that it was the west fooling the east Europeans. But now I think the west "genuinely" believes in it, so much so that the US is doing it to itself instead of gradually rebuilding its infrastructure and improving productivity it turns to the "quick" but shocking pill.
Majority of east Europeans in the 1990s blame everything on communist alone and thought every problem would be solved if they abandon communism. Someone here asked "what will happen if China does not devaluate RMB to cope with tariff". Now we have the answer, US inflation (dollar devaluation), or FED hike interest to combat inflation, US borrowing cost rises. It is a choice of dying on thirst or drinking poison (and die).
