Not about power. EV’s are heavier due to their batteries -> greater chance of getting stuck in the mud.
these are PHEVs, so the battery packs are not as large. I took a look at Tank 500 numbers and the pure ICE version seems to have similar curb weight as the PHEV version.

Also, we have seen Bao-5 in some really off-road challenges and they perform better than all the petro cars.

what the heck are you talking about? What weight issue? Bao-8 has much higher power than ICE tank versions.
Bao 8 curb weight is 3908kg, land cruiser prado is around 2200kg, tank 500 is around 2500kg while the tank 300 is even less. Its not some secret or slight against BYD, EV and PHEV are at a disadvantage when off road due to weight, even if they have more power

Bao-8 curb weight is 3.3t. Its dimension is 5195/1994/1905mm wheelbase 2920mm. It's just a large SUV.

Tank-700 curb weight is 3.11t, dimension 5090/2061/1952mm wheelbase 3000mm.

These two are the most comparable.

Tank-500 is smaller.

It's also important to note that some of these flagship SUVs and Sedans are made intentionally heavier so that they have strong safety protection. If you are spending 400k RMB on a family SUV, you don't have a flimsy piece of junk.

They also started taking pre-orders for Xia MPV, expected around 300k RMB, so entry px will be lower than that

700s a hybrid though, so its expected to be as heavy as the Bao-8s. Similarly sized ICE will be significantly lighter.

Again, 500 has both hybrid and ICE versions. And there is not much difference in their weight levels.

BYD vehicles do tend to be a little heavier because they make it nice and solid, so it can withstand major crashes.

sure agreed. I'm approaching this from a perspective of an off road enthusiast. While the community generally likes the power/torque of EV's and the ability of EV/Hybrids to do vehicle to load charging of camp equipment, right now the heavier weight puts them at a disadvantage which it comes to muddy, sandy, or even gravel terrains. This can be offset with tire selection and some other things but it's still a challenge.
