Rather solid analysis of the recent visit by President Xi to Europe.

To use a sports analogy, like in a hockey game or a basketball game, China is just trying to grind out a win.

As for what the EU is doing, who knows?

They try to pick a fight with China over economics, while embroiled in a real fight with Russia.

That is some real high level strategic thinking right there, you know, of course it is ill-advised, but they did it.

I think China will grind out an easy win over the EU.

I've watch the full interview. It was practically a 4 vs 1 China bashing forum instead of a discussion. The host, a clown French senator, a businessman, and a US-educated political analyst. All of them versus one Wang Guan. Yet Wang Guan was the one that emerged from that forum looking like the wiser and calmer guy. Most of the comments on France 24 had a more pro-China slant. Many commented that France 24 was an embarrassment.

When challenged about the allegations of China spying on the West. Wang Guan said that the US is the true king of spies. The US spied on everyone including European leaders like Angela Merkel. The 4 idiots in France 24 admitted that the US does spy on everyone, but that it's different. Because the US shares the same values with France, while China doesn't. Those idiots are not even denying that Europe was spied by the US, but can accept it! LOL! This is the level of French pride today.

That French senator, Olivier Cadic is a clown. That guy is just bashing China from minute one. Towards the end of the forum, he wanted to provoke Wang Guan by bringing up Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang independence question. He asked why China didn't ask the Taiwanese if they wanted to reunited China? And then he arrogantly pointed out that West Germany didn't need to ask East Germany when Germany reunited, smirking when he said that. Wang Guan calmly asked: Have France ever asked the people in their colonies in Africa and the Middle East whether they wanted to become a colony of France? Then the host quickly changed the topic. These Western clowns like to provoke and poke at their opponent. But when the opponent pokes back, they just cannot handle it. That is the level of Western media today. A single CGTN journalist can take on 4 clowns on France 24.

Lithuania started this whole charade. The diplomatic relationship between Lithuania and China is build upon the One-China Policy and Lithuania tried to attack and undermine this police globally. Whatever Lithuania is going to name that office, I hope China is going to stand firm and continues to deal measurable consequences to it now and in the future. And China should review Lithuania's actions every few years to see if positive steps are being taken before start mending their diplomatic relationship. If a small country like Lithuania can try to undermine China's most important policy without consequences then it will just invite other countries to do the same/similar in the future.

No, the whole reason for deleting Lithuania from the customs list of countries was that they began partial relations with Taiwan. A Taipei representative office is something many European countries have. China needs to act predictably. The sanctions have worked and Lithuania is giving up their hope of making Taiwan representative offices accepted. China must never be like the US, which is completely unable to withdraw sanctions even if the target wishes to make a compromise. Which ironically makes US sanctions even less effective as the victim knows that there's no way back, so there's no incentive to give up their fight

That's taking it a little too far. Korea is kind of an extreme case, but TFR in Japan is not much different from that of most of Europe.

Japan standard of living and birth rates are now closer to Eastern EU than Western EU. Japan has empty homes but still cannot increase births.

Chinese graduate students returning to China means they have more opportunities back in China than the Western countries. Which is interesting because US is still much richer per capita

Because after a certain level of wealth, other factors also become important - safety, social network (friends, family, etc.), culture, etc. So while jobs in the West do indeed pay better in most cases, other factors start outweighing that which was not the case a decade or two ago.

Safety is probably one of the biggest ones these days. Whats the point of earning a bit more if the next day you could wind up dead on the streets coz some drug addicted nutjob decided he didn't like your face? If you're talented enough to work for Google or something, chances are you can get a similar level of pay back home but way more benefits including getting to live long enough to actually spend that money.

Conversely in the past, main reason for more Chinese to stay in US were also due to other factors. Better environmental quality, better opportunities for children, better work life balance. Now the only factor that still holds true is better work life balance.

Different cultures must adopt different means of survival. Western Europeans and Americans receive TFR boosts from immigration and from being relatively less academically oriented. Most people in the West take more pride in their athleticism and early romantic experiences than they do academic prestige or career advancement. The same factors that make them less competitive vs. East Asians in school and work, also make them more fertile.

Contemporary Western societal structures and economic policies will not work for East Asians the way it does for the West - indeed, it is down right toxic, as we have seen the catastrophic effects on East Asian TFR. East Asians are more collectivist, competitive, and prone to delaying gratification for future rewards - a consequence of East Asia's intensive agricultural civilization, and in contrast to the nomadic, militaristic Indo-Europeans. Such cultures struggle to maintain TFR in environments where education and career are placed above family.

For East Asians, direct policy support is needed to keep TFR competitive with other cultures. Remember, children are the future of a country, and we should invest in them, the same way we invest in infrastructure and education and health care. What is the benefit of gaining wealth and power, as a nation, if you're going to end up throwing it all away through demographic extinction? It is the duty of every human society to ensure its own reproduction; the selfish, materialistic individualism currently practiced in East Asian countries influenced by the West, simply cannot be allowed to continue.
