And why exactly would they need Chinese help to refit the carrier?

I grant you that developing the naval version of the Su-57 is really low priority right now. With the conflict in Ukraine I wouldn't be surprised if at least some spending on the Russian Navy was eventually cut.

Did they ever get that dry dock fixed after the crane collapse?

They joined together two smaller land based dry docks to make one large enough to repair the Kuznetsov. So they don't need the floating dry dock anymore. I could go on details on which shipyards could be used to build carriers in Russia, but it is beyond the scope of this thread.

I know this is off topic, but you've confusingly answered your own question.

Russia would benefit from hiring China to retrofit their carrier because of the conflict in Ukraine. They obviously have to spread their resources, and having China do the carrier would free up resources for things like tanks. And frankly would be a lot cheaper than Russia doing it on its own since so much of the logistics is in place.

Thus, I'm not sure why you would even wonder why Russia would ask China. The answer is obvious and one you yourself pointed out.

Is it feasible or possible for PLAN to retrofit both CV angled deck with EMALS? That way they could accommodate fixed wing awacs and maybe certain UCAVs.
