In the meantime, something noteworthy:

Rough translation:
It is still unclear whether the J-35 will actually be deployed on the aircraft carrier Liaoning/Shandong.
The premise is that unlike the J-15/J-15B, the J-15 and J-35 have completely different sizes. Therefore, the existing wheel chocks of the CV-16/17 do not fit the J-35 and cannot launch the aircraft. If the modification of this part is confirmed, the J-35 will almost certainly be deployed onboard.

Though, if this is indeed true - With the J-35 model already present on Liaoning right now, I'm more inclined to believe that proper modifications have been done to the wheel chocks on Liaoning during her MLU at drydock that would permit J-35s to be launched from the carrier.

Otherwise, I can't figure how the PLAN would be happy to conduct only landing trials with the J-35...

I'm actually not sure about the wheelchocks thing.

It depends entirely on what the width of the wheels between J-XY/35 is versus J-15, and whether the existing arrangement can accommodate it.

For example, Kuznetsov during its Syria deployment to my knowledge operated both Su-33 and Mig-29K

I agree, the wheel-chocks should actually be an issue to operate a smaller (slightyl at least) and lighter aircraft.

However it also raises another question on the current J-15B‘s status? We still haven‘t seen any production aircraft built and even more we heard rumours, the J-35 may have been tested off the PLANS-17„Shandong“ … so is the J-35 progressing faster & J-15B slower than expected?

Could the 16 & 17 have enough power generation such that they can be retrofitted to catobar?
I think it odd that they would use a new chassis w/ the stobar.

The whole point that the mockup showing up on a STOBAR carrier is being treated with significance, is because it implies J-XY/35 is intended to operate from the STOBAR carriers.

Which is to say, there is no serious expectations, prediction or projection that CV-16/17 will be fitted with catapults, in fact even the mere suggestion of it at this stage should be actively scrubbed as a possibility.

Changing the STOBAR carriers to CATOBAR after they were built would be way too expensive to make sense. It would be better just to make a new ship.

The J-35 should have much better thrust-to-weight, have better avionics and sensors, be more stealthy. Being smaller it might be possible to fit more of them on the ship. So it makes sense to replace the J-15 with it. At least part of the J-15s should be replaced.
