As with many things in life, my answer to that question would be: it depends.
In my opinion, the "and Control System" part of the acronym shouldn't be overlooked.

What you are referring to would probably be more akin to a radar picket, in my understanding.
An example of such data-linked fighters I would mention would be the MiG-31:

My fault! I'll elaborate further. What I mean is, for example, three two seater J-16 fighters, each with an array facing their respective side (120 degrees apart). The second seats would make up the command center.

As it concerns specifically the J-16, I must admit my total ignorance. I'm tagging along to learn from the resident experts.

I was watching the demo for Anduril's Roadrunner and that got me thinking,

Why doesn't the PLA or the US or anyone strap a shotgun and an AI vision module onto a small drone as a cheap anti-drone-drone like smaller cheaper WW2 bombers? Or is something like this in the works?

For example, take the AV500W and mount shotgun pods onto the side to take out cheaper quad and octocopters. I know that armies are thinking about using these drones for fire support and recon, so the next logic defensive step is to create drones that shoot down other drones using dumb shells instead of wasting expensive heavier duty guided munitions.

Anduril's Roadrunner is an interesting concept but the one-use warhead is still overkill for a quadcopter drone that might cost 1000$.

They should seriously consider this. Shotgun might work at hitting small flying objects like drones.

IIRC, one concern with that concept was the drone being too small and light to handle the shotgun's recoil.

Fighter radars provide no where near the amount of coverage AWACs can provide. It will be like trying to substitute a search light with ten handheld key chain flashlights.

I've noticed that the newly built helicopters such as the Z-10 and Z-20

are mostly painted black instead of army green or camo. What is the reason?
