This 2023 US naval war college report estimates the 93B to be on par with Sierra I. Not sure how that compares to the LA class in terms of noise. but the Sierras were very capable subs, made of titanium.
Well, this report by Christopher Carlson you linked also says that the Type 095 is expected to reach only the capabilities of the Improved Akula I, and the Type 096 is is only expected to have similar capabilities to the first Borei SSBN launched in 2008. Perhaps some of the specific claims it deduces for Chinese nuclear subs are defensible, but the report's appraisal of their overall capabilities heavily undermines its credibility and objectivity.

well I think it's plausible that the 93B = original LA class and Type 95 = improved LA class. can't expect China to be at Virginia level just yet.
Lmao US reports are a joke as they have been caught straight up giving incorrect data for propaganda purposes before.

China, which has same or better material science than America, and also experience building some of the most quiet SSKs on the planet, wouldn't transfer that over to SSNs?

General consensus is 093B is either 052C or 052D moment of China. I am inclined to say 052C. This means almost as good as foriegn peers but not quite. By extension, 095 will be the 052D moment, an overall mildly ahead platform.
095 can compare with the newest US SSN. 093B is a platform for testing new technology which will be used in 095.
This is what I heard from someone whose parents are working in the shipyard.
If true then it match what I am saying.

I think 095 is more like a 055 moment or J20 moment. 095 will use a new model reactor. The outdated reactor of 093 limited its improvement. This is also what the man said.
From my point of view, PLA is devoted to getting the same level of newest US weapons nowadays, so they made J20, 055, 004(003 is just a modified type due to the change from steam catapult). There is no reason that 095 SSN will fall behind its US peer too much.

I consider 052D to be competitive among peers. Better in some measures, slightly behind in others. 055 moment is a peerless moment.
