054B/next generation frigate

I think I know why I dislike the look of the ship

It's because the stealth angles in the hull don't nicely taper all the way to the front of the bow (like FREMM / Formidable / Sigma)

The tip is too pointy and looks like someone added the first 2 meters of the OHP class onto a stealth frigate

6,000 tons seems to be a bit low for Type 054B.
Other ships with similar dimensions have higher tonnage:

Hobart Class:
Length: 147.2 metres
Width: 18.6 metres
Weight: 7,000 tonnes

Nilgiri Class
Length: 149 metres
Width: 17.8 metres
Weight: 6,670 tonnes

I think Type 054B's tonnage might be closer to 7,000 tonnes than 6,000 tonnes.
The "6000-ton" (full) displacement quote for the 054B FFG in my post above is mainly based on the figure that is most widely-quoted across the PLA-watching discourse right now.

Therefore, if the actual (full) displacement of the 054B differs significantly from the original "6000-ton" figure, I don't think we should be surprised either.

Seems unlikely.

The VLS isn't so much of being the main point here.

I've mainly discussed about the number of AShM - In this case, YJ-12 - launchers (or more specifically, AShM missile canisters) that can be reasonably installed in the amidship section of the 054B FFG.
Please have another look at the actual images and then the CGIs. You will see that the CGI shows 054B having way less space midship than it actually does.

You do notice the two deck protrusions from both the fore and aft superstructures into the amidship section on the 054B, right?

The 054A only has one deck protrusion from the aft superstructure into the amidship section.

And even if/when the CGI 054B differs from the real-life 054B in terms of available spacings in the amidship section - That difference isn't big enough to justify 16 YJ-12 AShM canisters in that section anyhow.

Besides, I made the aforementioned observations based on both the CGI and the photographs at Hudong-Zhonghua, not just the CGI.

protrusion number 1 doesn't look like it belongs with the ship. it might be temporary and will be removed later.

Until/unless we have further credible proof to reasonably conclude that protrusion #1 (i.e. behind the fore superstructure) into the amidship section of the 054B is only temporary-in-nature and will be removed in the future, I wouldn't count on that.

I'll be curious to know what the complement is especially compared to the 54 Alpha. If the same or less, then it would speak to a higher degree of automation.
