After working in the United States for more than 30 years, biochemist Kunliang Guan is back in China with a full-time chair professor position at Westlake University in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
As one of the most cited researchers in his field and a recipient of a MacArthur “genius” award, among other prizes, Guan will head a new laboratory to continue his world-leading research on cell signalling pathways related to organ development and cancer, according to the university’s website.

"Iron lady" my ass. More like "Lead lady" lol.
I think the lesson is these kind of big time diplomatic discussion over territory changing hands MUST be backed with credible threat of violence, else no one is going to give up anything no matter how much of a smooth talker your negotiator is.

. Even though this was all agreed upon many years before and everything went according to the agreed protocol the Brits are still going to be an asshole about it. So you can imagine if you don't have credible threat of violence and think you can just nicely talk them into giving up Falkland Island you have another thing coming.

The Argentina idiocy is actually a great case study example of why China favours to invest in tangible physical assets in risky countries.

A western clown puppet can come into power and confiscate Chinese investments. China doesn’t need to do anything too drastic to retaliate. It just needs to wait a few years until the mask inevitably slips and the clown is exposed and deposed and flees back to the US. Then, when the new power wants to re-establish relations with China, they need to hand back the stolen assets, which the escaping clown and their cronies cannot take with them.

This act to returning assets to China is made easier by the fact that such foreign clowns also inevitably are kleptocratic and nepotistic, so would almost certainly have give the stolen Chinese assets to their own family or close friends, so the new incoming administration will have far less qualms about stripping them of the stolen assets to give back to China.

So China doesn’t really need to have a strong response if this US clown puppet comes into power. It can just sit back and watch as he runs Argentina even more into the ground, while keeping a clear log of all assets stolen. Then, once he is ousted from power, China can just ask for its rightful property back, and probably also enjoy buying up a whole lot of other assets on the cheap due to all the economic mismanagement and political idiocy.

Milei is just your usual mediocre Austrian school of economics libertarian pedo type. Needless to point out that the austrian school is the economics equivalent of Astrology but for resented guys who think they can't get laid because of "feminism" and not because they utterly despicable human beings with little to no reedeming traits.

But as it common with Libertarianism is not rooted in reality at all so, I'm willing to bet either Milei is forced to tone his bs down once he is confronted with the reality of the worldI(and has to actually put in the work for once) or he runs Argentina so hard into the ground that he ousted among massive protests like it happened with De La Rua in 2001, when the guy ran away in a helicopter

Don’t forget their attempt to destroy the HK Dollar, too!

Yeah but China had Thatcher at gunpoint, while Argentina lost the war. They won't get it back.
TBH, China didn't had Thatcher at gunpoint.

If the UK refuses to return Hong Kong back to China, then the PLA will just march their troops and tanks across the Shenzhen River and right onto the streets of Kowloon. And what can the UK even do about it?

Sure, the UK did drew up plans to nuke China in case Beijing orders the PLA to crash into Hong Kong in the 1950s and the early-1960s.

But when Thatcher visited Beijing in September 1982 - China was estimated to have 200+ nuclear warheads, and had just introduced the DF-5 ICBM, which puts all of the British Isles within range of a Chinese nuclear attack. Besides, Hong Kong is much, much farther away from the UK than the Falklands/Malvinas are - There is zero hope for the UK to relieve their garrisons in Hong Kong if Beijing decides to reunite Hong Kong forcefully, then and there.

Plus, the early-1980s was the honeymoon period between China and the US-led West, and the US-led West needs China's support to stand against the USSR. It was definitely not in London's interests to force China back into the WTO camp.

To sum it up - It was Thatcher (and the UK in general) that didn't have a choice in the first place.

Lesson #1: Western politicians say a bunch of shit but more often than not never follow through.

Just look at the whole Ban TikTok Congressional testimony, scream a bunch of anti-China shit for viral coverage and token virtue signalling, then move on because your constitutents have attention span of gnat and blame the other party why it never got banned. Rinse and repeat. Only Trump was batshit insane to follow through his words, all others are showmanship and grifters.
Not quite right. TikTok hired NATO, CIA, and other US intel officials to be upper and middle management on moderation policies (censorship). That's one of the major reasons why they are free to continue doing business.

Let me see if I get this. China growth accelerate almost 2% from 4.5 to 6.3% and Western mainstream goes in a frenzy of gloom and doom about China. US grow accelerate 0.6% from 1.8 to 2.4% and mainstream journos a trowing a party.
They are also throwing a party because while economies have a tendency to grow slower after a recession than the pre-recessionary trend, is not present in the United States, China's GDP after the 2Q23 GDP release is ~7% below its pre-COVID trend.
