I don't think anyone seriously expects these peace talks are going to achieve anything. It's just another way for Saudi Arabia to gain some positive PR.

“Niger’s armed forces and all our defence and security forces, backed by the unfailing support of our people, are ready to defend the integrity of our territory,” the representative said.

I am not sure its American or Saudi idea to gather people in person. but JS have been traveling to Saudi often.
Saudi collected global North and South regarding Ukraine issue to demonstrate Saudis have greater say in World affairs that it can bring together both China and India. Arab Royals generally have Boeings as Presidential aircraft so that element of trust on US that they dont have on others. Also first time Arab country help with IMF a latin American. They are truly enjoying reserve currency. Strong dollar investments while weak Asian currencies imports.

The terms of the peace deal that the Western is offering is essentially an unconditional surrender. That’s why they are going around trying to get Russia partners and neutral countries to pressure them into accepting it. Only problem is they got absolutely zero leverage.

Apparently, Nigeria does not need senate approval to start a war against Niger. The president can simply declare it something along the lines of a national security threat and bypass congress entirely.
