You can thank Barack Hussein Obama for Heather Wilson's statement about our current state of readiness?? "We should ALL WORRY about that!", thanks a lot "Mr. Flexible!"

very sad, and Hillary Clinton would have further degraded our ability to "maintain the peace!",,, not political, its just "who they are"........

If indeed all the skins on the F-35 are carbon fibre,,,and I'm not convinced they are,??? (could you post a link to the source?? please??). I would imagine that light green top aft fuselage skin is actually carbon fiber, riveted to the underlying bridge work..

I imagine that yellow covering on the root section and over fuselage is a protective covering to prevent damage as the aircraft is assembled, I can assure you, they do not apply two layers of skin, or carbon fiber overlay over a metal "sub-skin",,,, that would add a lot of unnecessary weight, and one thing aircraft designers never want to do is to "add weight.

You can find interesting stuff there ;)

Israel is a very old and big customer of LM and General Dynamics before except USAF ofc ( about 2300 ) the more big customer with 362 F-16s* ! after Turkey and Egypt about 250, wanted initialy 75 F-35i for mid term with F-15i and 16i enough young 125 in service the fighter fleet is to 325 so the need is normaly for about 200 except if new F-15 delivered as had been mentioned serious ?
Replace actualy the last F-16A/B Block 10 in 1 and after 2 Sqns to Nevatim.

This a concern for all military branches the tempo of ops.is creating a severe shortfall in training and very well could be the Main cause of the ship collisions as well as other accidents in the armed services all of which I place blame in the prior admin.and Congress

First F-35A Squadrons To Get Full Combat Capability In September

The U.S. Air Force’s first operational

squadron is slated to receive the first fully combat-capable aircraft in September, as the service contemplates sending the stealth fighter to the Pacific.

The 34th Fighter Squadron, known as the “Rude Rams,” of Hill AFB, Utah, is set to receive aircraft equipped with the final Block 3F software next month, which most critically will allow the fighter to employ its full suite of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. Luke AFB, Arizona, the Air Force’s primary F-35 training squadron, will be the next to get the 3F capability, also in September, according to service spokesman Capt. Mark Graff.

The news comes as the Air Force is planning a possible deployment to the Asia-Pacific, where tensions are running high over North Korea’s nuclear program. The U.S.

already has F-35Bs stationed in Japan, but those aircraft are in an interim configuration and do not have final warfighting capability. Deploying the Air Force’s F-35A to the region with a full weapons loadout would send a strong signal of U.S. strength.

Top Air Force officials including former Secretary Deborah Lee James and Maj. Gen. Jerry Harris, the service’s deputy chief of staff for strategic plans, programs and requirements, have said publicly that a Pacific F-35 deployment is on the books for later this year.

Although current Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson would not confirm those plans, she stressed that the aircraft are ready to go if called upon. In fact, the Rude Rams completed their first overseas deployment to

Lakenheath this spring to train alongside NATO partners.

“If a contingency should occur, if there were a problem, they are ready to go to combat,” Wilson said during an Aug. 25 press conference at the Pentagon.

The Air Force declared the Rude Rams ready for war last summer with a limited, interim capability, Block 3i. Block 3F will allow the F-35A to for the first time to employ its full range of weapons, including air-to-air missiles such as

1. It also allows the F-35 to employ its internal gun through the full flight envelope, a crucial piece of the aircraft’s ability to perform close-air support.

In addition, 3F will provide enhanced sensor and targeting capabilities for air-to-ground munitions, improved moving target attack capability, improved data links and improved threat countermeasures, Graff said.

The F-35 Joint Program Office and manufacturer

are finishing up development and operational test of the 3F software load at Edwards AFB, California.

By the early-2020s, more than 100 F-35s will be in the Asia-Pacific region, including 42 operated by Japan and 40 by South Korea, along with forward deployments by the Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy.

Full Combat Capability is not FOC do not mix up for F-35A should occur 2018/19 with Block 3F ;)

Each weapons as a item we buy get a " manual " with also same for employment, tactits for pilots it but very big in more for F35 and the personnal must capable " do it " but for peace time mainly in war time completely different by ex. the Yorktown repaired in 72 hours... for Midway, same.

FOC is more administrative procedures matters and surely if the need is there USAF can deploy for duty the new bird but still actualy block 3i have weapons panoply limited he have in fact only about 40 % of weapons planned mainly not long stick even Stealth with it " invulnerable ".

The block 3F is the true F-35A combat capable Block 4 adding especialy AGM-158 a very long stick and the Winchester hehe :D

They are planning to "load" Block 3F on the aircraft that they may deploy,,, so to have an operational squadron or two of F-35s ready to "do what they do", is huge and a game changer.

I fully anticipate that at some point, there may be joint basing with F-22s in smaller numbers,,, to allow the F-22s and F-35s to operate as a co-hesive...

In spite of the protestations of the Mod's at Defense Talk, the F-22 and the F-35 were indeed designed to operate as HI/LO, having your Hi end for the real heavy lifting and the F-35 following up for the real work.. They are however right that the F-35 has been "elevated" and is perfectly capable of functioning as the Hi end fighter wherever and whenever needed...

The F-35 is already an exceptional Air to Air platform, it need fear no one on the planet, and for sure, nothing that is in the "Pipe" now.

and while the F-22 is the Queen,,, some smart guy in an F-35 is gonna "take down" a Raptor if they ever?? (they may not??, LOL) allow them to go at it....

personally I think they should allow these girls to "go at it",,, it will be more than educational and make everybody better at what they do...

Later Block 3F better... USAF have one FS fulll the 2nd receive first next month to Hill always possible it is not their mission coz mainly instructors are precious... but if necessary OCU Sqns eventualy can provide some birds in Rfts/Replts.
In additions fighters in OCU don' t have in general last upgrades than those in front line Sqns if a new software variant or other is disponible they will be logically priority.

Air Force Lifts Flight Restrictions on Luke F-35As

, Arizona, under which pilots had been ordered to fly at lower altitudes to avoid succumbing to possible hypoxia-related symptoms.

Officials announced Wednesday the flight ceiling of 25,000 feet is no longer in place.

"We have learned a lot over the past two months and, while we have yet to identify a singular cause, we have reduced potential causes for labored breathing, carbon monoxide ingestion, and refined our procedures and training," said Brig. Gen. Brook Leonard, 56th Fighter Wing commander.

"We have great confidence in the F-35A and the ability and training of our pilots. We will continue to closely monitor operations and work with the Joint Program Office and the Human Performance Wing on future improvements as we move forward building the future of airpower," Leonard said in a statement.

In June, the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke halted operations for all F-35As there after pilots complained of hypoxia-related issues.

In succeeding days, the Air Force established initiatives to keep pilots safe when flying and to avoid experiencing symptoms -- shortness of breath, confusion, wheezing -- in flight. Those initiatives included a backup oxygen system, wearable technology to monitor pilots' oxygen levels, and a restriction on how high pilots could take the craft.

Since the flight restriction was put in place June 20, the Air Force said officials have worked with the JPO's Physiological Event Team and "other subject matter experts to research possible causes of five unknown physiological incidents in five weeks between May 2 and June 8."

The F-35s at Luke resumed flight that same month. A total of 55 F-35As are assigned to Luke.

at the base have experienced physiological incidents while flying. In each case, the aircraft's backup oxygen system kicked in and the pilot followed the correct procedures to land safely.

Officials told Military.com on Tuesday that testing will begin on the five affected jets' On-Board Oxygen Generating System, known as OBOGS, in an effort to analyze more data.

The Air Force needed to re-establish an OBOGS testing lab at

, Ohio, since it was dismantled in recent years to make room for other testing, a service official said.

The 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patterson began baseline testing earlier this summer in preparation to receive the OBOGS from Luke.

With the OBOGS lab now fully functional, engineers will work to identify the source of the hypoxia symptoms pilots experienced.

Air Force officials disclosed to Military.com in June that there have been 15 reported F-35A in-flight and ground physiological events since April 2, 2011, including the most recent events at Luke.

Within that same timeframe, 23 cases have occurred across the

B models and five

C models.

In the 23 cases, 13 -- across all three models -- were discovered to have a root cause, a defense official said at the time.

The 13 were plagued by "pressure issues, contaminated oxygen and ground events."

Ground events could be attributed to "lots of jets on a ramp, of which exhaust fumes may have played a role," the official said.

The other 10 incidents remain unexplained.

"We may never arrive at a determination for some of these," the official said.
