Chinese aircraft carrier enters South China Sea

The Pentagon is seeing evidence a Chinese aircraft carrier is making preparations to get underway, days before Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is set to arrive in Beijing.

Satellite evidence shows China's only aircraft carrier is making preparations to get underway, U.S. defense officials have told Fox News.

Known as Lionang, China's aircraft carrier last conducted flight operations in early January in the South China Sea, the same location where U.S. officials suggest the carrier will return.

This week, Japan announced plans to send its largest warship to patrol the South China Sea, drawing the ire of Beijing.

It'll be interesting to see how the Chinese respond to Tillerson's accusations. Expect a buildup of US military assets in South Korea & Japan soon.

China responds to actions, not words. If the US military continues to build up in East Asia, then China will also accelerate the development if its own military assets as suggested by established international politics theories from the last century.

However, there seems to be a contradiction between what the US wants in military terms (more presence in Asia), and what they want in economic terms (less presence in Asia). While Tillerson is anti-China in the general sense of the term, the US pulling out of the TPP could potentially lead to the formation of an East Asian free trade zone, or at the very least, closer economic ties between China and other Asian countries.

What I suspect we'll end up with (as a Chinese response) is a weird compromise between warmer economic ties with Asian countries with yet increased volumes of trade, but at the same time growing increasingly at odds militarily with the US and their allies in the region. Still, I digress. This discussion can be better left to another thread.

So what if it is true. Are USN carriers not allow to sail when there is a high level Chinese delegation in the US ?

Any active carrier on earth should be out for 4 month in a 12-month periode. Business an usual.
at most in Bohai-sea, but unlikely in scs.
Indeed, there is a distinct minimum of tái fung (

in February and the first half of March, and the main season goes from July to November with a peak in late August/early September. So Liaoning will not go from July to November to scs, but in the past the ship was there in the end of the year and not in spring, if I remember right.
