I heard that just recently the captain of Liaoning had been replaced, likely moved to higher post while they get the next one up to task maybe?

That's weird... I would imagine commanding the CV-16 is perhaps the most coveted job in the PLAN. If they wanted to give him the CV-17, they would most likely wait until the CV-17 is commissioned and then move him to the new ship. Why move him now? Put him at a desk and make him wait? That doesn't sound like a promotion to me...

If they wanted to train new captains for next Chinese CV's, they would put the new captain side-by-side with the old one. This way, the old captain can properly train the new one.

Well, maybe he will command the whole task force and the new captain will work under him, who knows?
