You're exactly right Asif, and that's the reason the USN must embrace the F-35C,, only 5 Gen airpower will protect that Carrier and its Battle Group.

I'm all for the use of Naval and Air Power to keep the peace, and I do believe President Trump was very sincere when he called President Xi his friend,, and that's what it will take to keep the peace, and to that end, I'm happy to see the CV-16 project power, and conduct maneuvers.

Do pilots usually have an insider view on these developments, though? He seems to be saying that the next-generation fighter will be flying off of the Liaoning, which is dubious to say the least.

What is amazing is that a PLA Navy XO and a PLA Airforce pilot is speaking English, I will know that the world has changed if the reverse was true with an US Navy XO and US Airforce pilot speaking Mandarin ! ...LoL
