I know the world supply chain being badly affected.
My mind too small and inadequate to wrap around that.

BUT
MY OWN SUPPLY CHAIN ALSO AFFECTED.

I ordered via Alibaba and other E-stores stuff from China.
The 'Murican part of my mind want to kick up a fuss and create ruckus when I did not get that and to cancel my orders
Then I thought. The inconvenience and bothersomes to me so very very very insignificant to what they are going through in China.

So I let it be.

And hopefully in time I get what I ordered and wanted.
And if not, I let it be.

I surely hope such incidents are getting widely publicized and the violator's being punished. In this case, they shouldn't be blurring the faces of the violators. Their identities should me made known to the public, so that they cannot hide from their shameful acts!

so my question is what was going on in China in between Jan 7 and Jan 20

Nothing much as far as the Hubei government was concern. I revisited the timelines and the following events are what I believe transpired during that period.

· The entire situation began on December 8, with the discovery of the first known case of an infected patient in Wuhan, a stall operator from the

. The number of infected people rose rapidly, reaching 27 people within a short period of time. Health professionals in Wuhan began suspecting in early December that this was an unknown infectious disease, not unlike the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

· On December 30, the Wuhan Health Commission (武汉市卫建委) issued an order to hospitals, clinics and other healthcare units strictly prohibiting the release of any information about treatment of this new disease.

· As late as December 31, the government in Wuhan was still saying publicly that there were no cases of human-to-human transmission, and that no medical personnel had become infected.

· Meng Xin (孟昕), a researcher at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and his colleagues within one week had managed to: successfully isolate the disease, sequence the coronavirus genome (测完了序列), and confirmed the origin of the disease. In less than two weeks, they had developed test reagents and had distributed them to provincial CDCs, and they had reviewed anywhere from dozens to hundreds of specimens from Wuhan.

· Separately, Shanghai scientists were not far behind. According to a report in Health News (健康报), the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (上海市公共卫生临床中心) had isolated a new strain of coronavirus by January 5, within just 10 days of its receiving samples from patients in Wuhan on December 26, and scientists at the center had obtained the entire genome sequence.

· During a speech Xi delivered February 3, which was published by state media on Saturday, he said he gave instructions on fighting the virus as early as January 7.

· On January 11, China officially confirmed that this new coronavirus was the pathogen causing the Wuhan pneumonia epidemic, and it shared the new coronavirus gene sequence information with the WHO.

· Between January 12 to 16, the Wuhan Municipal Health Construction Commission announced that there were no new daily cases and no close contacts.

· Up to January 17, tourism authorities in Wuhan continued to launch the “Spring Festival Culture Benefitting the People Campaign” (春节文化惠民活动), issuing hundreds of thousands of free tickets to attractions in Wuhan in order to encourage tourists from all over the country to come to the area for sightseeing.

· Through to January 19, Baibuting Garden (武汉市百步亭社区), an area advertised as a model residential community in Wuhan, was still holding a Spring Festival banquet celebration for its 40,000 residents.

· Between January 12-19, there are no known official records that the Wuhan authorities actually met to discuss the ongoing virus outbreak. Their main focus was prioritizing the provincial and city-level meetings of the people’s congresses and political consultative conferences, the biggest local political meetings of the year. In all likelihood this is reason why, no new cases of the virus were reported – because a “harmonious” public opinion environment had to be created for the “two meetings.”

· Upon the conclusion of the provincial and city-level sessions of the “two meetings” that the authorities in Hubei province resumed reporting new disease cases, so that on the night of January 19 the number given suddenly rose to 136 new cases.

· On January 20, General Secretary Xi Jinping officially issued a notice on response and control of the outbreak.

· Even on January 21, the day after Xi Jinping’s instructions were conveyed nationwide on January 20, the provincial Party and government leadership went ahead with a grand Spring Festival Banquet in the Hongshan Assembly Hall.

· An order to lock down Wuhan city was issued at 2AM on January 23, but was not officially implemented until 10AM.

Nothing much as far as the Hubei government was concern. I revisited the timelines and the following events are what I believe transpired during that period.

The problem with your timeline is you didn't include things that the Wuhan/Hubei governments did do. For example, you took issues with Wuhan health authority's Dec 31 statement that there were no clear cases of human to human transmission and no infection among healthcare workers (there is no evidence that they knew more at the time), but you didn't mention that in the same announcement the health authority advised the public to wear face mask and avoid large gathering in enclosed spaces:

You also didn't include in your timeline other measures took by the Wuhan health authorities after Dec 31:
Between Dec 31 and Jan 3: closed and disinfected the seafood market. Began contact tracing. Actively search for new and back cases.

By Jan 5:
Traced 163 close contacts with confirmed cases and had them under observation. Quarantined all confirmed patients. Continued to search for new and back cases with similar symptoms. Epidemiological studies underway. The announcement again advised the public to avoid public gatherings in enclosed space and to wear masks.

By Jan 11:
All earlier efforts continued. Active public awareness efforts to inform the public on infectious diseases prevention. Began reporting to WHO.

We all know by now that before the Wuhan lockdown only the National Health Commission had the power to confirm new cases, and suspected cases reported by Beijing and Guangzhou health authorities weren't being confirmed by the NHC, so there is no evidence that Wuhan health authorities were behind the pause in confirmed cases.

The more I looked at what they did in early January the more I think what happened was that they assumed the worst case scenario was they had another SARS. Turned out it was much, much worse than SARS, much much worse than MERS. It's the most horrifying new virus we've seen in decades. They made mistakes in some areas, did excellent jobs in others, but honestly can you expect any country in China' income bracket to do an overall better job? Can you even expect any developed country to do much better?

I'm afraid the Western media narrative that a free press or a democratic form of government would have prevented the outbreak (seriously?) is already having its toll because by shifting the blame to the Chinese government it leads people to underestimate the deadliness of the virus. Now Japan is showing earlier signs of losing control over COVID-19. Chinese social media sites are now filled with accounts of Chinese living in Japan desperately trying to warn their Japanese friends and colleagues about the potential dangers, but often to no avail. Japanese hospitals are, according to social media accounts of Chinese living in Japan, still refusing to test people with COVID-19 symptoms unless they have exposure to China or to known confirmed cases. Some Chinese in Tokyo are considering return to China (outside Hubei). I hope they are just being alarmist, because Tokyo has far more people, far higher population density and more packed public transport than Wuhan.

On February 2nd, Wanfu Bio -Tech announced that its new series of new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) test reagents has been successfully developed. At present, some products have completed the registered product sampling. According to reports, Wanfu Biological's newly developed rapid detection products for colloidal gold immunochromatography are 2019-nCoV new coronavirus antigen detection reagents and antibody detection reagents. Among them, the antigen detection reagent can detect throat swabs and lower respiratory tract samples; the antibody detection reagent can detect whole blood, serum and plasma samples. The combined detection of antigens and antibodies will help to quickly distinguish between the incubation period, the acute phase, the early stage of the disease and the recovery period of the 2019-nCoV novel coronavirus.

The new 2019-nCoV new coronavirus antigen detection reagents and antibody detection reagents newly developed by Wanfu Biological Co., Ltd., and marketed detection reagents for influenza A / B influenza virus (FluA + B), lung branch / lung coat, etc., form "Three Musketeers." The "Three Musketeers" are single-person tests, stored and transported at room temperature, easy to operate, and do not require supporting equipment. As fast as 15 minutes, they can quickly and effectively distinguish influenza, common cold, and pneumonia infected by new coronavirus. It can be widely used in screening of hospitals, CDCs, communities, clinics, counties and other medical and health institutions at all levels, screening of enterprises, institutions and schools for return to work, screening of public transportation hubs and places such as airports and high-speed rail stations, and Customs inspection and quarantine. Provide strong support for quickly distinguishing different pathogenic sources and determining diagnosis and treatment plans during epidemic prevention and control.

In addition to rapid screening of "Three Musketeers", Wanfu Bio's "2019 New Coronavirus Nucleic Acid Detection Kit (Fluorescent PCR Method)" can detect throat swabs, based on a multiple real-time fluorescent PCR platform, combining specific primers and fluorescent probes Two technologies ensure the specificity and accuracy of the test. The PCR reagents are provided in a lyophilized form, which greatly reduces the difficulty of cold chain transportation and reagent storage. It is suitable for issuing reagents to the grassroots level and can provide more convenient, broader and more accurate detection support for the epidemic prevention and control work.

Wanfu Biological not only provides 2019 new coronavirus nucleic acid detection kits (fluorescent PCR method), but also provides POCT automatic multiple nucleic acid detection system (microarray chip method). It is understood that the system has three major features: first, multiple detection, which can effectively distinguish common coronaviruses, influenza viruses, etc .; second, integrated and fully enclosed detection, integrating experimental functions such as nucleic acid extraction, multiple PCR amplification, hybridization, etc., to avoid Contamination, which can be used without a PCR-certified laboratory; the third is convenient, "sample in, result out", fully automatic from sample to result, easy to operate, no training, no professional operation required. Widely used in hospital emergency clinics and clinical departments, CDC, primary medical institutions and inspection and quarantine.

Meikang Bio announced on the morning of February 3 that the company has recently completed the development of two new coronavirus detection products. However, the product is still in the company's clinical verification stage. The results of the clinical verification meet the relevant testing standards. The company will submit samples and related information to the State Drug Administration for registration application. Can it obtain the medical device registration certificate and the time for obtaining the registration certificate? Certainty.

Its new coronavirus nucleic acid detection kit uses real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR technology, taking the highly specific sequence of the 2019-nCoV new coronavirus as the target region, designing specific primers and TaqMan fluorescent probes, which are amplified by multiple fluorescent PCR. The relevant real-time quantitative PCR analyzer with a product registration certificate approved by the State Drug Administration has realized the detection of 2019-nCoV new coronavirus RNA, and the test results can be obtained in the fastest 2 hours.

The new Coronavirus protein rapid detection kit developed by Meikang Biotechnology is a rapid POCT detection method using immunochromatography. This method uses specific antibodies labeled on the nanoparticles and fixed on the nitrocellulose membrane detection zone to form a double-antibody sandwich immune response with the new coronavirus protein antigen in the sample, and uses the color rendering effect of the nanoparticles. In order to achieve the qualitative detection of specific new coronavirus proteins. This product is mainly used for initial rapid screening of new coronaviruses in medical institutions, and results can be obtained in as little as 10 minutes.

After the outbreak, the State Drug Administration immediately started the emergency approval process for medical devices, in accordance with the principles of "unified command, early intervention, follow-up review, scientific approval" and the requirements to ensure product safety, effectiveness, and controllable quality, and speeded up the review Review approval speed.
