Windows 10 is coming, anybody will try it? I'm expecting it coming in February. I'm planning to have a new laptop to replace my Portege R930 but I don't want Windows 8/8.1. So, I will wait until Windows 10 formally released.
I read a rumor that it is not very good. As it must work on smart phones, tables, laptops, PC's and the office systems of companies it might well have compromises as bad as F-35A, -B and -C.

I know I'll grab that one, if M$ doesn't break the "good-suck-good" tradition with their OS then it should be a good one...but even if I don't, my boss already told be to roll it out onto all Win7/8.1 PC at office when it comes online to take advantage of the free upgrade.

Personally, my motivation is that post-Win7 OSes have better compatibility with UHD-onwards resolutions, at least that's what I've heard, and I'm gearing up for 4K gaming, now just short of a suitable monitor to fit in the equation...as this year a whole heap of 4K games are coming...

Isn't that the same with Win8 as well?

Win 8/8.1 were disappointing. I believe the skipping of number 9 has some reason. They must have had failed something on Windows 9 (like the J-9) and then come out with a completely new idea (like the J-10), so they decided to drop project-9 and go direct to project-10. I don't know what it final quality would be but I hope they correct all the mistakes on Windows 8 like what they did on Windows Vista with Windows 7.

However, I'm thinking that M$ is out of the market slowly. Their Windows phones can't compete with Android and iOS at all. PC's operating system? they still have stake there.

I'm sticking to my Window's 8 for now. I just got a new laptop 3 months ago and just started to get the hang of Window's 8 and not ready for change.

I understand that Win 10 is not to be bought for Chinese civil service because of security concerns. That means that in time M$ will be removed from the largest market in the world which would make it difficult for M$ to keep its system current. So you might consider upgrading to Linux or FreeBSD or a similar system.

Two things to add to this thread today.

1. Have downloaded Windows 10 Technical Review for testing. I haven't tested too much because not enough time. However, there are some little things I've found changed. For example, the Metro menu now is a popup window rather than a full screen menu as it was with Win 8/8.1. This is good news. Win 10 accepts ACDSee 9.0. In Win 8/8.1, I could only install ACDSee Pro 6.

2. Have just bought a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I've been considering the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 for quite sometime but finally choose the Note 4. I feel less confidence in "Made-in-China" and I love the S Pen of the Note though. The Note 4 costs me US$608. I thought I got a good deal but only found out that the one I got was a SM-N910H. This is a 3G only variant of the Note 4 family. I went back to the dealer and trade it with a new SM-N910C which support 4G LTE. Trade fee was $30 plus added values of the C variant compared to the H variant.

But private enterprises will use Windows, more out of necessity than of choice. Question is, how many of them would still stick with the XP rather than moving up? Generally China doesn't keep up with the PC market that much, because it's not as yet a consumer goods but more as an luxury item for common consumers; gaming wise they generally content with mobile gaming or those that have a lower hardware requirement, that means they've lesser incentive to step-up on the hardware.

1. Would love to hear more from you, if that means a step-back to more Win7-ish UI that'd be good...Win8 Metro UI design have touchscreen in mind, but touchscreen monitor never really caught on because they're just too expensive. I rather throw my smackers for a 4K 28" monitor - can't go any bigger because of desktop space, even after mounting it on those flexible mount 28" is the max.

2. I sympathise your concern against MIC stuff, though I always say "what doesn't make in China these days?"...anyway, the current trend keeps going for a few more years, we'll see more MIJ and MIUSA stuff again, the high-end portion of them that is, before China catchup on that department. Still, I never like Samsung's...don't get me wrong I've a Samsung LED TV and I liked it not just because of sale price...but their smartphones' AMOLED display just not natural enough in the colour department, and their UI is as bad as LG does.

Start in Win10 resizes between a menu or the newer full screen depending on user preference. It is pretty nice.
Wonder if I can still put the menu bar on the top like I do now? I've been doing that since XP so 10 years of habit hard to kick...

Well, I just love the Win7's start menu. Items must be grouped in their belonging folders so that they can be found easier. Win8 Metro makes you headache if you want to know what have been installed on your computer. Yes, Win8 was designed with touchscreen in mind, and my next laptop will surely have touchscreen. I mentioned somewhere in previous posts that I plan to purchase the new Dell XPS 15 (15"6 with touchscreen), however, I postpone my purchase due to waiting for Win10.

Our company's multi thousands servers were made in China. In fact, the Galaxy Note 4 might also made in China. However, a home grown brand makes me fill less confident. Actually I like the external design of the Mate7 a lot. Mate7 is superior to the Note4 in some aspect. i.e. Mate7 fingerprint sensor is a touch rather than swipe like Note4. All metal frame instead plastic back cover. But I'm not that rich to buy new stuff all the time. So, when buy new things, I just buy the best.
