Not to mention China has a expanding fleet of helicopters and transport planes that needs new pilots. I don't think any pilot is going to loos his job.

Is China going to train up new pilots for the J-16's are just retrain some of the old J-7 or Q-5 pilots ?

Same for the ground crew are they going to train up new ones or are they going to retrain the old ground crew to service the J-16's ? Your going to need a bigger ground crew to service the J-16 compared to the J-7 or Q-5. And they will need a higher level of technical knowledge and proficiency.

If there are already 40 planes in service than how long has the J-16 been in production and how many planes can they produce a year ?

Good post Franklin, its common practice to move the old heads into the newest, most capable birds, unless someone just didn't want to, or couldn't grasp the technology??? My Scottish RAF bud said that some of the older Herk pilots had a harder time with the curser ball glass cockpit that the newest birdmen, but in reality, the more time you have the better more capable pilot you become.

USAF did move some newbies into the F-22, and no doubt there will be newbies flying some F-35's, though in general those Hi-Line Fighter positions are awarded to the cream of the crop of the old school first.

I am very skeptical of 40 J-16s,,, I think that's a pretty ambitious number?? I would say half that would be good, but hey, it is a Flanker, and like I have said the Chinese Flankers are very slik, indicating that the folks on the batch production are quite capable.
