J-16 is capable of carrying a variety of indigenous guided weapons, such as PL-8, PL-10, PL-12 AAM, KD-88 ASM, LS-500J LGB, 500kg standoff submunition dispenser (TL500/GB6?). It might also carry a new targeting pod underneath the engine intake similar to American AN/AAQ-33 Sniper targeting pod

The WS-10 series has an impeccable safety record as so far none of PLAAF warplanes equipped with WS-10 has crashed or failed. They are here to stay despite all the negative connotation quoted by...

Many Chinese bloggers claimed that PLAAF pilots prefer the homegrown WS-10 engines over the Russian build AL-31F as the WS-10 is more reliable and powerful.

IMO the days are close when PLAAF will begins to gradually phase out all their AL-31F engines which they have been recycling between J-11 and J-10 fighters.

Far too many engine failures in midair resulting crashes due to inherent design defects which include material and technological flaws and poor lubrication

PLAAF is not alone with this problem, in 2014 IAF had to ground its entire SU-30MKI fleet was grounded for safety check.
