U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornets with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102 arrive at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan, March 28, 2018. VFA-102 and VFA-27 relocated from Naval Air Facility Atsugi (NAFA) to MCAS Iwakuni. The relocation is in accordance with all Defense Policy Review Initiative requirements and supports the Navy's strategic vision for the Indo-Pacific, in which the most advanced units are forward deployed in order to support the United States' commitment to the defense of Japan and the security and stability of the region. ITS RAINING!
An ITF F35B is seen during the second week of November 2018 taxying from its landing spot in the Eastern US seaboard rain having "cleaned up" aboard HMS QE during the second 3 week trial phase (DT-2).
DT-2 is exploring more of the poor weather and higher sea state parts of the proposed IOC (Maritime) UK F35B flight envelope for offical sqn training and operational clearances next year. That has included more SRVLs as well as hover landings in higher rolling sea states.
The flying programme can be seen clearly on the forward island screen on the right of the picture.46169323_10155694782041481_4101961490171428864_n.jpg

744NAS REFORMED - 14 NOV 18
After over 60 years dormancy the RN has today 14 Nov 18 reformed 744 Naval Air Squadron as the Intensive Flying Trials and Training Unit for the Merlin ASAC “Crowsnest” Aircraft that will provide AEW, Fighter control and ISTAR from the QE class carriers.
The Crowsnest radar and mission system is being developed to fit the Merlin HM2 aircraft and the first trials aircraft is expected to fly from Leonardo Helicopters Yeovil early in 2019.
744 NAS as can be seen by its formation pic included here is a jointly staffed unit with RN (mostly ex 849NAS SK7 people), lead by an RN Cdr, and with RAF and some AAC involvement. In addition to working up the ASAC capability of the Merlin Crowsnest, especially with the F35B Lightning’s, and it will also develop appropriate tactics for using the Chinook and Merlin HC4 when flying specialist missions off the QE class.46383946_10155697268866481_6223075237269864448_n.jpg 46487976_10155697269021481_6176427365539774464_n.jpg .46405212_10155697269131481_6698791913828384768_n.jpg

Living 2 minutes from Yeovil, I get the helicopters over daily! I will be keeping a lookout for this.

Hoping we still have these carriers by then - old jezza could get in at any moment and stick them up for sale!

Don't EVEN THINK IT! They won't be sold, there's nobody out there that could afford to buy them. Every Nation that wants Carriers now also wants the ability to build their own. Carriers are about National Prestige, which you don't get if you buy 'off the shelf'. Even if Corbyn gets in, I'm pretty sure the rest of the Labour Party will shepherd him into a quiet corner whilst the grown ups handle the serious matters...

LOL definitely not news, just wanted to commemorate 108 years ago, the Navy launched a plane from a ship for the first time and changed naval aviation forever
