Aircraft Carriers III

I think you have two problems:

... The whole situation falls on the lap of former Pres. Obama and his appointed cronies for all the delays and cost over runs.....
here the problem is still the same Managers sit in vendors' chairs, and the same Program Officers sit in Navy oversight chairs
(plus Mr. Stackley, previously responsible for the USN Research, Development and Acquisition, is still the acting SecNav!!)

those individuals will keep saying how wonderful game changing revolutionary transformational results they'll eventually achieve

& D. Rumsfeld..(yes that Republican) for insisting all this unproven techno wizardry be installed aboard CVN-78..
here the problem is while indeed only projects which promised quantum leap and stuff had had a chance to get funded under Don, he quit in 2006 (zero-six, not sixteen), so since then the USN, the Congress and others has had enough time to realize what a BLUNDER the concurrency is, by just looking at, in last let's say five years:
F-35s (where the problem is aggravated by 'one size fits all' attempt);
LCSs;
the Zumwalts;
the Fords ... and they might've just switched back to building for example the Nimitzes again (and another working models for the other programs I mentioned) but they didn't, making those programs 'too big to fail'

I'll leave it at that (for now :)

So by your logic we should resurrect the F-14?? Yes??? and the happier times of the "kold war?" sounds good, but USAF must resurrect the F-22, then I'll play!

Every single one of th prgrams Jura named...

The LCS,
The F-35
The Zumwalts
and the Ford

every one of them are going to ultimtely be VERY successful and they are all going to produce fantatsic results that keeps the US Navy head shoulders above all others.

As I have said many times on these boards...

are there problems?

Yes...of course there are. when you push the envelope like these programs do, you are going to have prgrams. But no oe is better at ultimately recognizing and overcoming said difficulties and going on to produce the promised reults than the US Navy and her vendors.

And that will be the case with eery single one of them.

Ti still try and hapr on the F-35 because it is a design that addresses three branches is simply ludicrous. That is water under the bridge and it is in fact doing it...addressing all three branches.

The Air Force is getting a 5th gen stealth fihgter that will be produced in number slike the F-16...just whjat we need. And the price is coming down to the very area they said it would.

The US Marines are getting at VTOL (and STOVL) Aircraft for their LHD/LHAs that will be far better than the harrier...5th gen steakth aircraft with sensr fusion that can take off or land vertially. AMAZING stuff. No one else has put a production bird out that can do what it will do.

And the Navy is getting a carrier bird with larger wings, longer range, more payload, and the ability to bring 5th gen stealth to the big carriers.

Again...no one else is close to doing that.

I can say similar things abuyt each of the other prgrams. but rest assured, they are going to produce

O all of them the LCS has had the hardest time reaching its potential...but they have figured out what most of told them years ago, and now we are going to get an LCS and then Frigate that will be able to get the job done.

'nuff said.

for those who are new here:

test bd

bd popeye
LOL!

(OK LOL those who know what's going on)

Heh! Heh! Heh!,,, our Popeye does like to keep us entertained, and what better way than to have an "alter-ego", kinda like Superman (Popeye), and Clark Kent (test bd) to play off of.....

and when you get to be our age, sometimes the only one with any sense in a room is your own "lovable self", and we talk to our selves? or better yet? mutter under our breath!

remember "Dastardly and Muttley", Muttley always muttered under his breath when Dick Dastardly would give him an order!

HMS Queen Elizabeth begins initial ‘Training Cruise’

Over the next week, HMS Queen Elizabeth will be manned and ready as her crew operate the ship 24-hours a day as though she’s at sea, except for one detail: the carrier will not leave the pier at Rosyth.

The Training Cruise (also known as a ‘fast cruise’) commenced today and its purpose is to exercise a number of scenarios which the Ship’s Company may experience at sea. You’re right that the Training Cruise commenced today.

An ACA spokesperson told the UK Defence Journal:

“The Ship’s Company is now living on board the HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH and working with industry colleagues to prepare for maiden sea trials in the summer as well as undertaking a period of training.

The Training Cruise is part of this training programme and, whilst alongside, exercises a number of scenarios which the Ship’s Company may experience at sea.”

A senior member of the Ship’s Company said:

“We are thrilled to be settling into HMS Queen Elizabeth and making this ship our home.‎ There is a real buzz of excitement as we focus on honing our skills and knowledge to bring the ship to life.”

The cruise is a simulated underway period that prepares the crew for life at sea. This is the last training effort before the supercarrier begins sea trials.

The training provides the opportunity to measure the ship’s preparedness and is designed to get the crew into an operational mindset. Each department will accomplish this task in their own way, but all training will simulate at-sea conditions as closely as possible.

Coinciding with the tides and the booking of various tugs, it’s estimated that HMS Queen Elizabeth will sail between the 21st and 24th of this month. This has not been confirmed by the Aircraft Carrier Alliance.

According to a source at Rosyth, the rumour mill supports this:

“Obviously most of us don’t know the exact time as that’ll depend on a multitude of factors but as far as I’m aware from what I’ve been told, Queen Elizabeth will sail in around two weeks.”

Another source tells us that the plan is for the vessel to depart on the 21st at noon and anchor in river. All going well, the supercarrier will sail under the bridges around 18:00, weather permitting. Again, this has not been confirmed.

The ships company have moved their belongings onboard for Ships Staff Move On Board (SSMOB). SSMOB is a key milestone in the ship preparing to sail. The ship is nearly ready to go to sea for the first time.

The earlier news of the slippage in trials of HMS Queen Elizabeth is no secret, the ship was supposed to sail in Spring. In such complex engineering projects, this type of occurrence isn’t a cause for concern nor is it unusual. HMS Queen Elizabeth, after all, is essentially a prototype and the Ministry of Defence can’t afford to get it wrong.

Recently Merlin helicopters of 820 Naval Air Squadron wrapped up an exercise in Scotland to prepare them for operating from HMS Queen Elizabeth. Merlin helicopters will be the first aircraft to begin flying from HMS Queen Elizabeth later this year, soon followed by Apache, Wildcat, Chinook and F-35 next year.
