... are you implying Thermion will be over the deck of QEs?

this is on the USS Wasp and I think it's clearly visible (in like top-left corner) they landed also out of the patch:

The deck doesn't melt, but the overheating can lead to structural problems over time. AFAIK, the Thermion coating of the QEC deck is certainly all down the portside of the deck where the runway is and all the landing spots are. It probably covers the full width of the flight deck aft of the 2nd island, as precious RN practice has been to use all of the aft flight deck for landing as and when required. The dark area on Wasp was for trials purposes hence only a small area was covered, also the colour of the coating will henceforward be the same as the rest of the flight deck markings so looking for dark patches won't help!

USS Nimitz Fifth Carrier Armed with Anti-Torpedo Weapon

When the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz emerged from an extended period in a shipyard last week, it featured a new installation of an anti-torpedo system.

Nimitz is the Navy’s fifth carrier to have the Anti-Torpedo-Defense System installed. The system includes the Torpedo Warning System, an acoustic sensor that detects an incoming torpedo; a tactical control station; and the Countermeasure Anti-Torpedo (CAT). The CAT, a small torpedo designed to intercept an incoming torpedo, was developed by Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Lab.

Compared with air- or ship-launched cruise missiles, anti-ship torpedoes are much more difficult for a ship to defend against because the medium of water is more opaque and distorted to sensors.
The anti-torpedo defense system was one of several improvements added to the ship, including two Mk38 25mm guns and the Consolidated Afloat Network Enterprise Services system, according to an Oct. 5 Navy release announcing the Nimitz’s commencement of sea trials following a 20-month Extended Planned Incremental Availability at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash.

An engineering and development model (EDM) of the anti-torpedo system was tested in May 2013 from USS George H.W. Bush and deployed in 2014. A roll-on/roll-off model was deployed on USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. A second EDM was installed on USS Harry S. Truman. The Navy plans to equip all aircraft carriers and other high-value ships with the system by 2035.

Indeed!.....She'd look better with some F-35Bs on the roof...:D
I've long been convinced these ships (and the preceding Hyuga's) are Japan's very clever response to China's carrier program. The JMSDF now has four ships at sea and worked up whilst China has only one (and another building), and only has to hint they can deploy F-35Bs if needed without actually buying any at the present. Stay with me here!
Japan IS buying F-35As and presumably will be getting simulators for training purposes. This will allow them to train pilots to fly 'Bs from their 'carriers' (come on, let's call a spade a spade here, we all know what they are!) without even getting their feet wet. If China begins to take a more aggressive stance militarily Japan can start ordering 'Bs for service from their flat tops and get them ready for deployment in much less time than it would take anyone else regenerating carrier aviation from scratch. If things stay peaceful politically the 'DDH's can remain as ASW carriers indefinitely. It's a variation on the 'fleet in being' strategy, a fleet that can cause a lot of problems for the enemy without a shot being fired. So possibly we will never see Lightnings flying from their decks, then again maybe we will. And don't get me started on the Australians...

... it's clear to me the US Military should've instead gradually develop, gradually test, gradually manufacture, gradually field new options, not like scrambling many of them together and wait more than a decade for some Wunderwaffe, which only "ultimately" works ...

We shall see.

As I said...when you bring this much noire technology forward, it is costly, almost no matter how you slice and dice it.

It is costly to stay on the cutting edge.

But as I have said with the F-35, the Zumwalt, und ultimately the LCS, the same will hold true of the Ford class.

She will be the most modern, most capable, and ultimately, over their life times, some of the cheapest to operate super carriers in history.,

It is easy to shoot holes in her as she is going through these tremendous learning curves...but the time will come when those are rectified and addressed...and then the advantages will be apparent...and ultimately lauded.
