If you go to Jeff Heads favorite website, shipbucket,(inside joke) you will see a similar rendering of that Spru-can CV design..

Imagine if this design of a USN Sea Control ship ever came to fruition..Humm??

Click on the picture and select view image for a larger view.

Six Sea Harriers or JSF. 2 Osprey. 6+ SH-60 variants. abot 650feet(200m) in length just about displacing 20,000 tons.

My favorite.. I may have posted this at one time

They each one have their own appeal don't they, and the F-35B is kind of the ace in the hole for each one, has the USMC estimated a phase out of the Harrier by a date certain, I know they bought the UK birds for spares.

The defence and security company Saab has received an order from the Royal Thai Navy for the upgrading of the command and control system on the aircraft carrier H.T.M.S. Chakri Naruebet. The order amounts to MSEK 180.

The contract involve upgrading the aircraft carrier with the latest generation of command and control system, 9LV Mk4. Saab will also supply data-link equipment to the ship, which will allow communication between the ship and the Royal Thai Air Force’s Gripen fighter aircraft and the airborne radar system Erieye, carried by the Saab 340 AEW.

“Saab will further strengthen its position as supplier to the Royal Thai Navy through the upgrade of the command and control system on the Navy’s flagship. Saab is now on the Navy’s three major vessels and with links to the Royal Thai Air Force’s Gripen and Erieye, capabilities and resources can used more efficiently,” says Gunilla Fransson, Head of Saab‘s Business Area Security and Defence Solutions.

Saab is the main contractor to the Royal Thai Navy, and as well as supply of its own systems, its tasks will include procurement of third-party systems and responsibility for integration of all existing and new systems.

“This is the second 9LV Mk4 contract signed between the Royal Thai Navy and Saab. It further strengthens Saab’s position in the country, which we are proud of,” says Gunilla Fransson.

The contract mainly concerns the Security and Defence Solutions business area as the supplier of the command and control system. The Electronic Defence Systems business area will supply the Sea Giraffe AMB surveillance radar system as well as data-link equipment for communication with Gripen and the Erieye airborne early warning systems.

The contract will run between 2012 and 2015.

Is there anyone else in the world that operates SAAB's Gripen fighter plane? I like the way how SAAB engineers and designers think and approach their projects. Too bad there aren't too many firms like this left in the world, I guess it's just too costly to run.

So, they are upgrading their command control to work with their other vessels, with the Thai Air Force, and their AWACS aircraft. Smart move.

The deal is worth $27 million US.

It seems to me that there are numerous Harriers coming on the market since the UK and ultimately Spain, Italy and the US will be replacing theirs. Thailand should be able to make a deal to get aircraft to outfit this carrier and have plenty of replacement parts for those Harriers over the next few years if they so desire. At some point, I imagine they will be able to get pretty good prices.

Some pictures of the Vikramaditya on sea trial including helicopters and a MiG-29K Fulcrum-D mock up on her deck. Air ops said to commence with in days. Including a unique and perhabs a one off event, the landing on her deck of a MiG-35 Fulcrum-F that is specially adapted with a tail hook for this occasion.

She is anchored. Probably doing what we in the USN called "fast cruise".

Fast Cruise – A training exercise whereby the ship simulates being underway while remaining tied to the pier or anchored. Generally the brow(accommodation ladder) and all shore services are secured and the ship is on internal systems only.

Excellent pics. Glad to see them too.

Hopefully we will get some of her when they do the Mig-29K touch and go or trap quals they intend. That would be great.

She's looking very trim in the one pic there.
