The War in the Ukraine

Ukraine are building up strong fortification to the south, don't know if they will be bypassed from the east. Pushing onto these will end like the Ukraine forces pushing south in the Russian fortification last summer.

Unlike Ukraine, Russia has been dealing with strong fortifications since the beginning. Their strategy is not to try to punch through them. But to bombard them with superior number of artillery and air launched bombs and then advance bit by bit. This is the Russian way that minimizes losses white makes slow but less costly gains

Quality of newly built Ukrainian fortifications are hastily built compared to the Russian built ones and it was evident how the Ukrainians preferred the Russian fortifications they captured in Robotyne over their own. Some of these have returned to the Russian side but still leaving the ones in the north. In fact the battle for Robotyne is never about the village itself which is practically destroyed but all about these fortifications. The hastily built Ukrainian trenches are highly vulnerable to TOS, drone bombings and FPV drone attacks, if not to mud and rats. The better of the Ukrainian made trenches, all built with NATO assistance, were those built between 2014 to 2022, but the majority of them is in a massive belt between Bakhmut, Popasnya, Lisychansk and Severodonetsk, long taken by the Russians.

Another Ukrainian bridge used for logistics is taken out with an X-38ML fired from a Su-34 and lighted by an Orlan-30.

From the beginning?
All that green was what Russia had from the beginning of the war there were no fortifications with the exception of Donetsk area

What war are you watching? The "bit by bit" or slow progress is because of Ukraine hammering Russian armored assaults. The Adviivka battle started early October of 2023 starting 2-3kms east of the town and it took the Russians almost six months to finally take the town center itself and have only managed to get 3-4kms west of the town. All this cost them over a division worth of men and armored vehicles and keep getting hammered every time they try to breakthrough. As of now 10-13kms in 6 months from Oct 2023. Same for Bakhmut area and all this happening as Ukraine is supposedly running out of men and ammo.

This is patent bullshit. Even Mediazona's (BBC funded) casualties numbers get nowhere close to that.

Andrei Morozov, who also served as a soldier on the front line in Ukraine, said in his last post Wednesday that he decided to “execute” himself to help his comrades in arms avoid fallout from his critical publications, which had angered the military command. Maxim Pashkov, a lawyer who knew him, confirmed Morozov’s death in a messaging app statement, saying that he shot himself dead. Morozov was 44 years old.

Morozov, who went by the nickname Murz, said in a recent post that about 16,000 Russian troops were killed and the military lost about 300 armored vehicles since October when the four-month battle for the eastern stronghold of

began. Russian troops captured Avdiivka over the weekend after Ukrainian troops pulled back.

Morozov’s remarks drew angry comments from a top TV show host on Russian state TV and others who called for him to be prosecuted for “discrediting” the military. Several fellow bloggers blamed those who attacked Morozov for his death.

In his last post before killing himself that he posted on his channel in Telegram, Morozov said he was forced by military officials to remove his post about the Russian losses. He harshly criticized the military command for turning a blind eye to losses and ignoring troops’ needs.

Alexander Kofman, head of the Public Chamber in the Moscow-controlled part of the Donetsk region, described Morozov’s suicide as a “huge mistake” in a statement on his messaging app channel.

Morozov’s death came as Russian authorities have become increasingly intolerant ahead of March’s election in which

The 300+ armored vehicles is a conservative estimate and it hasn't stopped. Russian assaults to breakout from Adviivka have been stopped and annihilated just adding to the cost from late February. Vuhledar is another battle that has cost Russian forces a divisions worth of men and armored vehicles the same with Bakhmut. All these three are/were frontline towns when Russia decided to take them.

I believe more the Russian bloggers numbers since he claimed was told by the folks in the know.

I believe Ukrainian losses also severely undercounted. Russia outnumbered them in artilleries by 5 to 1 and have been using glide bombs for several months but somehow they still claim to have far fewer casualties compared to Russia in every battle doesn't make sense.

I think at this point trying to pass tendar as a source should count as bait or trying to troll the thread. When the guy isn't outright wrong, he is posting outright inflamatory stuff with no backing and advocating for the mass killing of people.

EDIT: This is a response to Supersnoop above post.

I believe the US goal is to prolong the war as long as possible.

If you look at the aid package, a lot of the money goes to US weapon production while a relatively small amount of the total goes to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in that order.

So prolonging the war has two benefits to the US.

1) Russia continues to burn human, economic, and military capital in pursuit of its goals.

2) US missile and ammo production is getting a much needed capacity boost to production. The longer the war goes on, the more money can be invested into weapon production capacity increase which takes time.

Outside of those two goal, the US is committed to throwing a as big of a wrench into Russian foreign policy goals as possible.

From the US perspective, the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a major upending of post Cold War European / World Order which is a direct challenge to the US. On top of that, they don’t view it as a legitimate invasion for any way shape or form.

Yes, I understand the strategic implications are positive for the US in this case. As long as the Middle East doesn't go out of control (wonder if they gave Iran anything this time around), then you want to bleed the Russians as much as possible with a proxy.

Should be used to it by now (after Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc.), but listening to these politicians is vomit inducing
