In March, sales of new electric vehicles in the Russian Federation amounted to a record 2.5 thousand units
07.04.2024

At the end of March 2024, 2,499 new electric cars were sold in Russia. As experts from the AUTOSTAT agency noted during the online broadcast “AUTOSTAT Operative. Current information on the Russian car market. Results of March 2024”, this is the highest figure in the history of our country.

Let us recall that the previous record for sales of electric vehicles was set in December last year (1922 units). In total, in the first quarter of 2024, 5,889 new electric vehicles were sold in Russia. This is 3.6 times more than in the same period last year.

The most popular brand in this market remains Zeekr. In March, such electric cars sold 1,216 units. In other words, this is about half (48.7%) of the total. In second place, with a huge lag, is Volkswagen (269 units). The third position is occupied by Tesla (152 units), the fourth – by Avatr (140 units). The domestic brand Evolute (138 units) closes the TOP 5.

Experts from the AUTOSTAT agency also note that the share of electric cars in the Russian market continues to grow. Thus, in March of this year it already reached 1.7% of all new passenger cars sold. Meanwhile, a year ago (in March 2023) it was 1%.

AVTOVAZ showed its best sales result in March in the last 11 years
02.04.2024

In March, AVTOVAZ sold 42,840 LADA passenger cars and light commercial vehicles on the Russian market – 83.6% more than a year earlier. As noted, this is the best sales result in the last 11 years. According to the results of the first three months of 2024, Russian LADA dealers sold 91,563 cars, which is 42.5% higher than the same period last year, the automaker’s press service reports.

AVTOVAZ's bestseller in March remains the LADA Granta, which was chosen by 20,412 buyers (+25.6%). The second place is occupied by the flagship LADA Vesta, whose sales amounted to 11,703 cars versus 254 cars a year earlier. As noted, this is a record figure for LADA Vesta NG since its entry into the market. Sales of the LADA Niva Legend and Niva Travel family of SUVs increased by 56% to 10,028 units.

According to AVTOVAZ President Maxim Sokolov, the company continues to implement the 2024 production plan, which was approved by the board of directors. In the first quarter of 2024, car production in Togliatti increased by more than 70% and amounted to almost 116 thousand cars.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, in March AVTOVAZ began selling LADA Vesta cars equipped with a new power unit - a modernized 1.8 EVO engine (122 hp) and an automatic transmission. The cost of LADA Vesta with 1.8 EVO AT starts from 1 million 588 thousand 900 rubles (sedan in Comfort configuration). The new power unit is installed on all models of the family: sedan, Cross sedan, SW and SW Cross.

this growth is created without much debt when compared to other countries.. even in UKraine reconstruction and fighting side by side. I dont think there is such conflict in history where so many people fighting and reconstructing together. you need boat load of money to convince people to work who may not be from that area and than spend extra to manage security.

If the West confiscates the Russian foreign reserves then Russia should just stop paying their debt to the West.
The West froze $300 billion USD in reserves and Russia has $326.26 billion USD in foreign debt.

This first time i read a composite wing for future wide body aircraft could be tested on existing IL-96-400M.

In 2023, AeroComposite produced two prototypes of the wing caisson under the ShFDMS program. The products are currently undergoing static and life tests. This groundwork gave the company confidence that, given current technologies, it would not be difficult to produce a composite wing for a wide-body long-range aircraft, this could be either the Chinese C929 or a future project, the prototype for which could be the Il-96-400M airliner.

This is one of the proposals for a large airliner. To replace the Il-96 wing with a new composite wing. And replace the four PS-90 engines in the Il-96 with two PD-35 engines.

I came up with a question when I read @sunnymaxi 's post in the H-6 thread, so I'm posting it here.

Can this upcoming exclusive integration with the Chinese economy and industry could be enough to finally fuel a stable economic growth period for the Russian economy during or after the war in Ukraine?

By now we've already had some snippets of what that could look like, but during this time of war I reckon it's just too early to come to a conclusion.

(What I mean by that is similar to how the Americans integrated Western Europe into their industry and helped them in the post-war period; albeit on a much, much smaller scale and of course without the financial aid. After the rebuilding period this already established close cooperation allowed W.European economies to grow steadily.)

What do you guys think?

Russia generally has mid-high economic growth since Putin took over in 2000. Russia's GDP dropped in 2008, due to the global recession, but bounced back. Then it suffered another setback in 2014, due to sanctions after it annexed Crimea. It had another major crisis during Covid and 2022 due to sanctions for... obvious reasons.

Remarkably, Russia grew 3+% in 2023. What this tells us, is that generally speaking, Russia is actually very well managed. In fact, Russia would probably be in a very, very good position if it wasn't constantly jerked around by its Western "partners." Of course, I'm not saying that everything Russia does is perfect... but relative to some of its peers it doesn't do bad at all.

If Russia decoupled from the West in 2008 instead of only starting to in 2014... it probably could've been as large as Germany.

Russia hardly allow any one to own anything that will benefit outside. At best foreign investment that use local supply chain. but there is alot of restriction on labor so increasing volume not easy unless there is extreme automation. Try Poaching some one from one of the influential enterprises and see how fast business goes to failure.
Auto industry is easy to observe as they have created scoring system. this scoring system that goes up with year to get subsidy on car purchase. See the change between 2022 to 2023 for Lada that was previously owned with Renault. that HAVAL F7X has its own Plant and this year engine production. so score can go up from 1165 in 2023. than there is complete independent supply chain for EV creation under Rosatom.

Very good insight and post.

I dont think people give Putin enough credit on how he has been able to steer the Russian economy successfully through multiple sanctions, and a war.

Reminds me of the saying "amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics" but maybe we can add that ultimate winners talk about economy.
