It's more lethal in this combination because now the soldier can aim and shoot smart grenades around corners too. Those could actually take out enemies behind covers instead of just suppressing them.
Not really, because of the recoil issus such functionality would more as a safer alternative then stick your head out to see around the corners.

Remember, even a trained soldier ain't the Governator, and the Governator has metal alloy chassis that can easily wield a mini-gun, can you dig it?

Well You can fire a shot from the unsupported position.
you just cant follow up with it, Of course the Type 05 grenade launcher is Bolt action anyway. So after shooting you would have to pull it back in and reload or switch to the carbine.
My interest in this now is, We see that the soldier with the Type 05 is using at least part of the Chinese

. And If that works with that gear then It might be that long term they could be looking to install a simplified version on QBZ95 series weapons down the line.

The Issue with a Gatling is more Weight, power and rate of fire from being automatic. .

Sadly, the laser range finder is still covered, but we get a nice full frontal on the grenade launcher.

What's that wire on the side of the scope for, and where is it connected to on the other end? Are we sure the video is beamed wirelessly to the display mounted on the helmet? Oh, that appears to be a new helmet too.

At the rate of these new images are being revealed, we might just see the gun in the upcoming parade.

The Wire runs to the Computer of the Soldiers gear some where in his vest. you can see the other end of the wire under his left arm. That wire is how the camera in the optic streams video that is then relayed to his helmet mounted display.
Sorry lots of Borg tubes, no wireless. on the upside less signal bleed and RFI signature.

That wire under his left arm looks quite a bit thicker than the one connected to the gun. I wonder what it's for.

Probably it is easier to change the type of ammo if it is single shot
More importantly I think is the weight. Look at the comparable systems. The XM29 which had a magazine fed semiauto was 18 -19 pounds empty. The K11 which has a magazine fed and a bolt action is 14 pounds empty. The given weight of the ZH05 is about 8 pounds empty (that is very light though so I bet they are not counting the optic but even if the scope tipped the scales at 3 pounds its still lighter then K11)

It is rumoured that the ZH05 started off with a 3 round magazine fed semi-auto grenade launcher, but that after field trials, the PLA requested the design change to bolt action breach fed to reduce weight and improve the performance of the grenade launcher.

Looking at the gun, you can clearly see the gap where the magazine would have slotted into, had they carried on with the magazine.

I am honestly torn on this, as I think a 3 round magazine would have been very useful in some situations, whereas the weight savings and flexibility in round selection (hell, maybe even the option of having 3 specialist round types to choose from rather than being stuck with a HEDP round type) are also major pluses in other situations.

I suppose, for the primary mission of the smart grenade launcher - to take out enemies in hard cover with perfectly timed air bursting grenades, a well trained soldier could almost engage multiple targets as fast with the bolt action as he could with a semi-auto.

That is because the bulk of the kill cycle in such instances revolves around programming of the fuse. On the ZH05, that is done with the left hand, while reloading the launcher is done with the right.

If you trained so much and so hard that the entirely reloading process is done to muscle memory, you can devote the lion share of your attention on keeping the weapon aimed and programming the point of detonation with your left.

It will be a lot harder than using a semi-auto, but it should be possible to achieve similar fire rates and accuracy of air bursting.
