    Wow

Why isn’t the navy getting these new Z18 in similar numbers

    The LPD fleet needs them

Anyone with an idea, why these completely redesigned "Z-8s" are still called Z-8 - aka Z-8G and Z-8L - in PLA Army Aviation, whereas the naval variants got the new Z-18 designation?

Especially the latest wide-body variant really should no longer be designated Z-8.

“Internal politics” or an attempt to confuse foreign intelligence perhaps? The Tu-22 and Tu-22M were completely different aircraft despite their similar names, maybe something similar is at play here?

In my opinion this probably indicates that several subcomponents have been navalised (salt water resisitant); hence to make clear not to use 'standard' Z8 componets during maintenance, a separate supplychain delivering clearly Z18 marked components wil have been set up.

Oh well ... I'm preparing a book and the PAP changes its colours - and eventually numbers - again.
