A 300,000-ton floating dock, the largest of its kind in the world, went into production on Wednesday in northeast China's coastal city of Dalian.

Developed and built by the COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd, the dock, which is 340 meters long, 76 meters wide and 27 meters deep, is capable of repairing 300,000-ton crude oil carriers, bulk freighters, and container ships, and rebuilding or converting other large watercraft.

This could have something to do with their carrier program...who knows?

Floating dry docks are uasally used to repair ships not build them. Their advantage is that they float and can be moved from place to place.

In the picture in that link is a super tanker in that dry dock. Of course any size CV could fit in that dock.

Very impressive indeed. You have to hand it to their shipbuilding industry and engineers, they are churning out an extraordinary amount of ships and support vessels of all types and classes.

Very true Jeff..very true. My question is the same one I always have. What sort of training are these PLAN sailors on board these new ships recieving? Just how much time do the spend at sea?

Once again that drydock is impressive! COSCO, the name on the dry dock, Operates the PRC's faclicty in Long Beach CA. Which was once a former US naval shipyard.
