I'm confused about the rules. I've been here long enough to see contradictions in the rules. It use to be no one can just post a story and not give a comment. Are comments on stories in this thread not allowed now? Then there have been a lot of replies to posts lately in general in this forum that just say, "That's your opinion" like it's wrong giving an opinion. Aren't opinions the point of these forums? I never knew about reputation points in here until I got hit a while ago with a negative reputation message that appeared once when I logged-in. Apparently I got I think was -13 points just for having an opinion. That's what the message said because it was my opinion. Since I didn't know how that worked, I sent one back to experiment but it had no affect on this poster's reputation. So how does that work? Are the points decided by the moderator? All this suggests having a certain opinion is a violation of the rules now.

There needs to be clarification. If it's true only certain opinions are allowed, I like to know what opinions are violations to the rules.

Well pops seems to have changed the rules a little. Before there was nothing to stop me from posting multiple stories. primarily however it seems that commenting on a story is and always has been optional. However posting Editorial's and Op'eds seems to be ruled out. in other words "Man Bites Dog" Not "Should Men Bite Dogs?"

Well all the rules that are seeming to contradict were from varying different moderator's over time whether officially written or not. I think not being allowed to have opinion or view is troublesome.

i am surprised nobody posted anything on Ferguson. that is all i hear about on US news these few days.

gotta say with all due respect to upright law enforcement officers everywhere, some of these american coppers dont seem to know what "policing" means.

St .Louis is an extremely segregated city. These events are happening less than 10 miles from me. Ferguson is about 70% black but 95% of it's cops are white. The community there feels that they have been harassed long enough by the cops and the Brown shooting was just the spark that lit everything up.. Literally.
To make matters worst there are 'opportunists' from nearby ghettos who got on their cars and went to these protest sites and caused trouble.
A lot of the looters and violent protests are commited by these outsiders. Social media is also not helping in this case because of half bake truths and fiery fear mngering comments to rile people up.
There were also tweets about these looters going into St. Charles county (99%) white to rape and pillage.. Naturally people get scared, buy guns and walk on eggshells. A lot of Asian businesses are also targeted in Ferguson and surrounding areas because the thugs know the Asians are unarmed and unprepared. There was a chop suey place that got looted which makes me wonder the intentions of some of these folks.
At the end of the day this is a racial issue even though many pretend like it isn't. The police were initially heavy handed and their tactics were very militaristic. I mean you just don't point a gpmg at civilians!!! The Ferguson polive has gotten a lot of hardware from the US army surplus including MRAPs, SAWs and fully automatic rifles. Last evening after a very ry peaceful protest a few dowens idiots decided to go on a rampage and looted a few other stores and beat people up pike employees and even the reporters. The cops were told to hold back to deescalate the situation.
Tonight curfew has been imposed in the city from midnight to 5 am.
Hopefully that will prevent more looting and damages to the local businesses.
This is a lose lose situation for everyone no matter the outcome.
The city I'm afraid will become even more segregated and the racial divide will deepen instead of healing.
Obama has missed a great opportunity to addressed this issue but instead he gave the usual canned response. He needs to addressed black anger and unfair treatment and talk 'real' and confront this issue head on.

Interesting how the police released the robbery video footage after the Justice Department told them not to and especially when the officer who did the shooting had no knowledge of the robbery.
Who says he did not?

The robbery happened before his initial stop of the suspects. According to a friend of the officer,

, his side is as follows:

Officer Friend said:
“He pulled up ahead of them. And then he got a call-in that there was a strong-arm robbery. And, they gave a description. And, he’s looking at them and they got something in their hands and it looks like it could be what, you know those cigars or whatever. So he goes in reverse back to them. Tries to get out of his car. They slam his door shut violently. I think he said Michael did. And, then he opened the car again. He tried to get out. He stands up.

And then Michael just bum-rushes him and shoves him back into his car. Punches him in the face and them Darren grabs for his gun. Michael grabbed for the gun. At one point he got the gun entirely turned against his hip. And he shoves it away. And the gun goes off.

Well, then Michael takes off and gets to be about 35 feet away. And, Darren’s first protocol is to pursue. So, he stands up and yells, “Freeze!” Michael and his friend turn around. And Michael taunts him… And then all the sudden he just started bumrushing him. He just started coming at him full speed. And, so he just started shooting."

Apparently there s a video on YouTube showing the scene right after the shooting where two people discuss what had just happened that cooberates this story.

Time will tell what happened, particulately the forensic evidence of the ballistics of the shooting.

I've been seeing the media reporting it all over the place. That's where I got it from.

The officer who shot Brown didn't know he was a robbery suspect. Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson told reporters on Friday that he released the video "because the press asked for it," but didn't explain any further.

regardless of what happened in that shooting there is no excuse for burning, looting and violence like this. these are just plain thugs and hooligans who want to challenge authority and destroy other peoples property. if they really wanted to take up the cause of racism against blacks by the police they can do it peacefully and non violently. whenever something like this happens you can see those 2 political opportunists Rev Al Sharpton and Rev Jessie Jackson there milking it for their own political gain.
