Which Chinese submarines are offered for export?

Bangladesh Navy wants to purchase 4 submarines. I personally think we should purchase Chinese submarines as China is our largest defence supplier, close ally and also very reliable in terms of supplies.

Which Chinese submarines are offered for export currently? Also How much would the submarine unit cost, with full support package?

I would have to say Song is the best chioce for now. China could built the hull and the western to put in the elecronics, but song is not as good as Kilo. But China probably could throw in good package with cheap price and decent payments terms.

Ming is another option, but ming is getting old and obstacle, but China could probably offer it for free with the hull and charge on new equipments and urgrade option.

Yuan is best diesel subs chinese had, but it is long way from export.

Currently North Korea opperate an unknown number of romaros, Egypt got 4 mings with harpoon capabilities (How that happened I'll never know), and I heard China dumped a few romaros a few years back, but i forgot on who.

So far the guys on cdf have got pics of 14 different hull numbers, seeing as how china currently have the capabilities to make much better subs, I wouldn't be surprised that they sold them off. The ming would actually be a competitior to many nations who cannot afford a better sub. Sure they might not be as advanced as Malaysia's Agostas or Chili's Scorpenes, but they do provide a faily capable patrol submarine. It should also be fairly simple to equipt all models with Yj-801s for the antishipping role.

A song can definitely compare to a 877 ekm kilo in general preformance. The song might be based on 80's technology, but the kilo is an 80's era submarine.

Unfortunately the PRC has not exported any new submarines in the past few years, so we don't have any prices to quote on.

I think it's very unlikely that the PRC would export nuclear-powered attack subs to Bangladesh, so we'd be look at conventional ones. The Yuan class SSK is too new, while the (improved) Song is more mature and likely candidate for export.

If the Bangladesh navy has a tight budget, another possibility is to acquire used subs from the PLAN. Back in 1997-2001 the PLAN ordered 6 Type 035G (ES5F) improved-Ming class SSK's. If the PLAN intends to phase out the Ming-class, these subs could be sold, or even offered for lease.

Most of the exported Chinese submarines are antiquated models that the PLAN wants to retire from service so it can replace them with more up ot date craft. Bangladesh will probably be msot likely to receive four Ming class subs. Ming and Romeo are the only Chinese subs up for export. I don't know about the Song, so far there has been no infromation on export versions of this submarine. The Yuan is still undergoing development.

If you ask me, Bangladesh shouldn't buy Chinese submarines. If they're on a shoe-string budget, then Mings it is. But I think the Agosta is a good candidate.

The Type 039 Song class SSK's were intended as replacements for the 035 Ming. However the first ship (#320) had a lot of issues and it took the PLAN some years to resolve them. Since then 2 improved variants (039G, 039G1) has been built, for a total of 8 ships.

The 039 Song SSK technology is probably fairly mature (by PLAN standards) and can be built for export.

according to Janes, China put both Song and Ming on export recently. In fact, I'm sure that's what China put forward for the Indonesian submarine bid.

adeptitus, I know what the Song is.;):nana: I just haven't heard or seen any reliable information that the PLAN is planning to make this submarine avaliable for export. Even so, I can't imagine the Chinese selling a submarine that advanced to Bangladesh. As far as I am aware, Bangladesh is not a major client state to China. If China does have important interests there, please inform me. I find it more possible that if China is going to export the Song, it will be to countries with more important Chinese interests, such as Iran or Sudan or maybe North Korea.

Do some research dude. China has virtually no diplomatic relations with morth korea, and would certainly not sell a song to the country. Sudan has a very small shoreline, and no agressor navy in the region. They would never think of buyign a song. The song has matured enough that a basic varient 39 or a 39G would be considered for export. China has already moved on to the G1 varient and has the more advanced Yuan. For a small country like Banglasdesh, 2 songs is all that should be needed to patrol the coastline.
