What's the ACTUAL casualty for HEAD-ON combats in the two gulf wars and Afghanistan?

This idea had been bugging me for the past few years. We always hear of NATO casualties from the middle east, but rarely do any of them result in head-on conflicts, most of the time just IED and some shady bombs. The closest that happens to a real combat is shady snipers taking out a guy or two by ambushing a team on patrol. But we never really truly hear any soldiers die from head-on conflicts, such death resulted from a gun, a greanade, or even a RPG (this is often, but rarely result in death when the troops are alarmed).

Who here in this forum can give me a rough estimate of soldiers died from head-on conllicts?

I've always wondered the same but as a whole not just one side. I'd like to know how much does technology give you an edge. If you matched equipment on both sides, it would be interesting if the numbers changed. How much does training and/or combat experience play? Shady is relative. During the Iraq War, there were those that say IEDs and terrorist tactics were unfair and then those that said dropping bombs from 30,000 feet is unfair. Are snipers any different from hovering over in an Apache using your chain gun well out range of an AK-47?

I guess if you want a good idea of what good ol head on conflict casulties ratio would be like, then just look at WW1.

I'm thinking it's probably less than 100 casualties. The only times the soldiers have a chance of being injured is during patrol and house searches. Other than that, the jets and the gunships are always near by.
