Cambodia, US duel over Vietnam War debt
Washington's demand that Phnom Penh repay a four-decade-old US$500 million loan will likely push the post-conflict country even closer to China

The article is long so I copy parts:
Since US President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has repeatedly called on the new American leader – often personally – to cancel a US$500 million debt owed dating back to the Vietnam War. Hun Sen has made the request to previous US presidents, to no avail. He has referred to the money owed as “blood-stained” and “dirty.”

Between 1972 and 1974, the US Department of Agriculture gave the then ruling pro-US Lon Nol regime US$274 million, officially for food supplies, but most believe it was really used for military purposes. Lon Nol came to power in a US-backed military coup in 1970, only to fall to the Maoist radical Khmer Rouge regime five years later.
Hun Sen has noted that around the same time the debt was incurred the US dropped more than 2.7 million tons of ordnance on Cambodia, making the country one of the most heavily bombed per capita in the history of warfare. “It is difficult for us to tell Cambodians to accept debt to buy bombs and bullets to kill Cambodian people,” Hun Sen said recently.
So US paid their dictator Lon Nol $274 million but failed to keep him in power, they never paid any compensation for the immense damage they did to the country and now want to get the money back they paid to their own creature and with interest.

BTW they never paid compensation to Vietnam or Laos either.

International condemnation as Japan kills 333 whales in Antarctic video

Japan's whaling fleet has returned from its Antarctic hunt in the name of scientific research with 333 minke whales, despite international criticism.

The final three ships of the five-vessel fleet arrived at Shimonoseki port on Friday after the 83-day hunt in the Southern Ocean, Japan's Fisheries Agency said.

"Since a majority of both the males and females taken were mature, this indicates that the species is reproducing healthily," it said.

Japan has repeatedly shrugged off international protests over its conduct in Antarctica.

Japan has repeatedly shrugged off international protests over its conduct in Antarctica.

Japan intends to take nearly 4000 whales over the next 12 years for its research program, with the ultimate goal of resuming commercial whaling.

Japan, unlike Norway, kills whales beyond its waters, sailing all the way down to Antartica. And only Japan uses the pretext of killing for scientific research.
Oh, OK.

So with your logic it's ok to kill whales as long as they're no killed in Antarctica? And I thought that killing whales overall is a bad thing. But, thanks to the need of bashing Japan on every possible occasion, I learned at least your logic. Your post was liked so it seems like you're not alone in that. And Japan really performs some scientific research on those whales. The meat end up in restaurants.

You can't be too sure many people all over the world find Japanese whaling repugnant. And your last two lines are a source of Japanese bashing all over the net. As an animal lover and pet lover, I loath killings of most animals, be they cats, dogs or whales.

No your eyes are not deceiving you — all five members of this Chinese boyband are actually girls.

Acrush is made of five girls who are mostly in their early twenties, with the youngest member being only 18.

— not bad for a band that's not even put out a music video.

Most of the band's fans are predominantly female, with many calling the band members "husbands" — a term usually used to refer to famous male celebrities that they're crushing on.

"I love your style, who needs princess dresses or girly music? This is the way to go," said one netizen on Weibo.

"You guys are really handsome. I'm sure you'll soon become famous," another added.

"The first time I've seen such a good-looking bunch of girls," one said.

According to the

, the group avoids using he or she terms, instead using the gender-free term "meishaonian," meaning handsome youths in Chinese.

Even the "A" in the group's name is manly — it stands for Adonis, the Greek god of male beauty.

The group was formed after their manager began searching for unisex stars across the country, in light of the success of Li Yuchun, a pop star in China who maintains a rather androgynous style.

After some six months of searching, Lu Keran, An Junxi, Peng Xichen, Min Junqian and Lin Fan were announced as the five members of Acrush.

The group is officially called "FFC-Acrush" as they're part of a sports brand called the

, an organisation which trains artists and "develops idols."

All bands under the FFC have to learn to play soccer, and incorporate the sport into their performances.

The band is expected to release their debut video in April. We can't wait.

This is brilliant! Boy bands are getting every more effeminate anyways, so why not cut to the chase and just use girls instead? Genius!
