A story circulating in Japan involves what has been described as a “miracle goldfish,” because the tiny fish was tossed into an aquarium display tank seven years ago, as food for larger fish, but ended up hiding in a filtration tank and went unnoticed until recently.

When the goldfish was finally discovered, during a recent cleaning of the 10-foot-by-16-foot filtration tank, it measured a whopping 10 inches and appeared to be healthy and robust, despite its pale coloration as a result of living mostly in the dark.

On Wednesday, Shima Marineland posted a brief video clip

, showing its newest exhibit star, swimming back-and-forth in its own tank.

“From the food to the hero!” the post begins.

The goldfish was among many intended to become fodder for the voracious arapaima, also called pirarucu. These carnivorous predators can measure 12 feet or longer, and goldfish typically don’t last long in their presence.

, the tiny goldfish somehow managed to swim through a pipe measuring 1 centimeter in diameter.

That led to the filtration tank, and once safely inside the lonely goldfish fed on scraps of food in water that was pumped in from the main tank.

Because no fish are supposed to be in the filtration tank, aquarium staff never looked closely for living critters during the monthly cleaning of the unit.

But apparently, the goldfish, despite living in the dark, finally became too large to go unnoticed. It was discovered in late April, and has now regained some of its color.

States the conclusion of the Rocket News report: “And this adventurous fish’s luck hasn’t run out yet, either – it’s now the star attraction of a special exhibition at Shima Marineland, where visitors can learn all about goldfish, as well as the story of this one brave little creature.”

SLIDELL, La. (MEDIA GENERAL) – Wal-Mart has apologized after a man from Louisiana posted a video to YouTube explaining how a local store refused to make a cake with a Confederate flag design but baked a cake featuring the ISIS battle flag.

Chuck Netzhammer said he tried to order a cake featuring the image of the Confederate battle flag adorned with the words “Heritage Not Hate” on Thursday, June 25, 2015. The bakery denied his request, as the store, along with several retailers over the past week have announced they are banning sales of Confederate flag merchandise in the wake of the Charleston church shooting on June 17.

Later in the week, Netzhammer ordered a cake with an image of the ISIS battle flag, which the store made.

In the YouTube video, Netzhammer shows the ISIS cake as well as the rejected form of the Confederate flag cake that appears to have been marked with the words “cannot do cake.”

A spokesman for Wal-Mart told ABC News: “An associate in a local store did not know what the design meant and made a mistake. The cake should not have been made and we apologize.”

Netzhammer’s cake controversy is the latest chapter in a sparked discussion surrounding the Confederate flag. Many in the south claim the flag is a symbol for southern heritage and those who fought bravely in the Civil War. The flag’s critics say the emblem is a symbol for hatred and bigotry because one of the main motivations for the south’s secession was to keep slavery legal. After the Civil War, the Confederate battle flag emblem was adopted by several white supremacist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan.

Not that surprising, the ISIS flag is not well known, so why should the walmart employee be expected to know that the image provided by the customer is the ISIS flag?

The sad thing is, given the publicity generated by this stunt, walmart will probably start to refuse cake design with any kind of arabic text on it.

As regards the two flags.

1st, it is probably a simple matter of the employees at the Walmart in question not recognizing the ISIS flag. As simple as that. The Confederate Flag is well known throughout America and Walmart recently enacted a direct policy against it.

2nd, I think it is the height of folly for people, because of political correctness, to try and erase history. The Confederate Flag is a part of American history. It is true that it was a symbol of the Confederacy, but for more years than it was that, it has been a state flag, a southern culture emblem. Each state has a legislature that is elected by the people. If the people do not want it as their state flag...that is fine. Their legislatures will take care of it which I have no problem with.

But there are movement's afoot to take it out of history books. To have town ordinances banning its very appearance. To take it off old southern monuments. etc. I have a real problem with such attempts to erase history.

We give people the right in this country to burnt the American flag. I do not like it when I see it...but we allow it nonetheless. If some old boy from Alabama wants to hang the old Confederate flag in his car window...I say big whoop. Let him do so.

But that's just me.

Right you are, Jeff. I believe the Constitution gives Americans the right to free speech, even hateful ones, but it doesn't give immunity from consequences of free speech. That means I believe the KKK has the right to march through Watts in Los Angeles, shouting racial epithets, but I'm perfectly OK if local residents show them why it's bad to be in Darwin's waiting room.
